He was elected to the Hall of fame in 1974, and he definitely deserves to be there.

In 2401 career games over 18 years, he hit .298 with 536 home runs and 1509 RBI. If you average those numbers over 162 games, it's like hitting .298 with 36 homers and 102 RBIs for 15 consecutive years. (During his career Mantle missed about 3 years worth of games by today's standard due to injuries, and he fact that he played half his career in the days of the 154 game schedule).

Also, he battled leg injuries throughout his career. If he had been healthy who knows what kind of numbers he sould have put up.

Morgan_mccown, I'm a Red Sox fan too. Don't feel badly about Mickey Mantle being in the Hall of Fame just because he was a Yankee. There's no denying it, Mantle was great, and he deserves to be there.

he was always as hall of famer as was elected to HOF in 1974. 21 years later, he died from the liver cancer while his life had the alcohol abuse. He was the swtich hitter as throw by right hand.
