Discrimination is alive and well today. I decided to head over to a pretty upscale Nordstroms to do some shopping for some clothes. I was dressed in a ripped jeans, Abercrombie outfit. I'm 25, white, and was laid back, listening to my ipod, and just minding my own business.

I head over to a dressing room, and it looked pretty upscale and everyone was dressed up in suits. So I'm about to walk in and I say "guys, hey what's up, I need a room."

They look at me condescendingly, and in a snobby like manner and say "oh, uhmmm, errrr, you can't really use this room." Then they laugh. Then they say, "well okay look, just this once you can but in future reference, pleeeease use the otherrrr room." And they look annoyed and point to the other room.

I then notice another person who was sitting down by them, sneer at me.

I realized they were giving me a hard time for whatever reason. SO i went to the manager, and she was totally surprised as she said that room was avail to all.

She looked very concerned and actually genuinely said she'll take care of it, and headed over immediately as she said "they were wrong to do that, I have no idea why." She was nice to me, and a few other people were genuinely nice.

Anyways, I don't understand what some people's problems are. Why they think that you have to be of a certain class or profession or look a certain way to get respect.

It's wrong.

I could have dressed up in a suit, and gotten more respect, but that's very phony.

Our society has this problem.

But the worst offense wasn't really this, it was the fact that they, and a few people around actually looked pleased that I got "snnubbed." They knew what was going on, as did I, and they w ere more or less like "Ha ha haaaaaaaaaa."

I really think it's unfortunate that people are so cruel and miserable in a sense, to be able to be like that.

This is in the NYC area btw.

People here are warped.

They truly believe they're better.

Welcome to "man". The scriptures tell us "man's heart is evil and desperately wicked". Place your hopes in Christ who died for you and don't look to man for acceptance.

That doesn't matter much where I work - we even have a benefit package for Registered Domestic Partners. I always did think it was nice to be able to meet the real SOs at a company function. We have several openly gay people, but no one is flamboyant. Maybe that's a good rule of thumb for the workplace. Not every place is as relaxed as mine, so think about the position you're applying for is it appropriate to be flamboyant? Would you be dealing with some people who may not understand? Would it cost the company money? It's hard to find the right fit with a job - but it can be done. Best of luck to you.

Well lets hope the snobs got fired for being jerks. The manager did the right thing. Did the manager do a follow up to let you know what the outcome was?

That really surprises me. Nordstrom's is supposed to be well-known for its customer service.

In my ten years of running my company, I've learned not to judge a book by its cover. Usually those who spend the most money with me aren't the ones who dress the nicest.

I'm glad the manager took care of it for you.

Yes it does suck. I went to a comm. school and was treated the same way. It sucked now I hate all of my classmates and refuse to even speak to any I run into. With snobs just hold your head up high and ignore there snobby crap. Also if someone holds there nose above u just say thank you but I don't wish to see your nose contents.

i would have said
"oh, i'm sorry....is the fitting room reserved for 'frigid ****** club'...i mean, since your standing guard here, i figured you were getting ready to have a meeting"

THEN, i would have walked over to the manager and told on those biotches!!!

that's crap...and i find the BEST part to be that you, a customer, is getting snubbed by a bunch of RETAIL workers.
sure, it's highscale...but the employees at retail places like that are just pretending to have it all....they really don't.

they suck, you rock.

move on sista!!!
