True story in Maryland. A woman has terminated 4 of her pregnancies and is facing criminal charges. She could have gotten 4 abortions and not been prosecuted. The law in Maryland states that a person can be prosecuted if they terminate a viable pregnancy. Isn't that what doctors do during abortions? Doesn't make sense.

Read the news, Blue Sea, before you get angry and stupid. The last one was only 24 weeks along.

Oh, CNN reports the child was stillborn and NOT born alive. Again, get your facts straight.

The charge is "terminating a viable pregnancy" as stated in the article at cnn.com. I would tend to agree that a medical procedure done by a doctor is less risky to the patient, but then the charge should be "performing abortion on self without a license".

BlueSea, that is exactly what I'm saying. You're just not "getting it". Look down at some of these other answers that actually DO get what I'm saying.

I'm laughing, Blue Sea. Ofcourse I don't want that. You've gotten yourself all worked up without understanding the question in the first place. ;)

Abortion must not be tolerated because it is killing a person.

It is really high time to review all laws connected with life's existence. Life is of paramount important and it is a gift. If a mother reject a gift and instead go to a doctor for abortion then the mother and the doctor even if there is an approved law regarding abortion is morally wrong because the author of life is God. Abortion is always wrong because even if there are good reasons, it will never justify the end. When a mother terminates her pregnancy, she is to be pitied for because she needs an extraordinary care. She needs psychiatric treatment and she needs healing. Pschologically when a mother terminates her pregnancy there are hidden reasons much more serious than that of abortion. The mother is extremely sick and she needs a close follow up for people who understand her. Both abortion and termination of pregnancy do not make sense at all. They are morally wrong and both are evil to the person concern and to the society.

I think the woman needs medical help not prosecution. I am not against legal abortion but to terminate a pregnancy on your own without a qualified medical practioner and a safe environment is just dangerous and I wonder what her reasonings were for not going to a clinic. Could she not afford it? Did she not have access?
I believe the wording in the laws against terminating a viable pregnancy should be altered to exclude the pregnant woman, and any qualified medical server she enlists to assist her. I believe causing a woman to miscarry when she WANTS to be pregnant should be illigal of course - but terminating a pregnancy when its the womans choice is a different story. But the story is typical of the convulutated laws and legal system that persecute women who attempt to control their own biological destinies and life choices.

Yeah, uh, the problem here is these babies were born ALIVE.
Seriously, you think it's OK that she plopped that babies out, killed them and then kept them in her home??????? That doesn't sound sick, twisted, demented not to mention offensive to a normal person and the law.
I am against abortion but for you to equate this mentally ill woman with woman who struggles with the choice of abortion is absolutely horrible.
Additional
First off, information is still being determined at this time. Second a baby is viable, maybe only a little, at 24 weeks, so until they prove if and when the baby was killed we don't know, do we? If that baby exited her womb and was alive, big difference, so before YOU rush to judgment get the facts straight.
You really are ignorant. As most people know with a breaking story or one new like this facts can be wrong. But lets assume this baby was still born, has it crossed your small mind that perhaps she did something to make the baby be stillborn??? So in your small mind that makes it right???? The fact that she could go to a clinic and have an abortion doesn't even enter your head? The fact that this woman has been pregnanat AT LEAST 8 TIMES and therefore probably knew early on she was pregnant and could therefore have an abortion done legally and in a timely fashion doesn't make a difference to you. What do you want? Women in the back alley taking a chance on killing themselves again?
You have a sick and twisted way of thinking.
Let me guess, you're related to this woman???
Honey, she's sitting in jail for a reason.
Sigh............you just don't get it, do you?

They should prosecute for being stupid enough to keep getting pregnant. But, you did bring up a good point. If you don't want you kids then try putting them up for adoption or get yourself fixed somehow so you won't be able to have children. Obviously she is not stable enough to have children in the first place. I think the brutality and the insensitive way she discarded her babies is what brought on the murder charges. She is not a licensed doctor to perform her abortions nor did she follow the proper safety and sanitary procedures as well.

The lady is crazy, she kept all four fetuses in her home with her other 4 children. Plus she lied and said the baby she just aborted or delivered had no arms and legs. That goes to show she knows what she did was wrong. I think partial birth abortions are illegal anyway. She should be prosecuted.

It doesn't make sense. But did the Mother consider Birth control? I figure after the first time getting Pregnant you should have figured out what the cause of getting pregnant is.It is irresponsible on the Mothers part.
Planned Parenthood provides cheap or free Birth Control.

A womans choice is HER choice but if she terminated her own pregnancies, I guess it's more disturbing that she would WANT to do that to herself, and 4 is seeming habitual. In a doctor's care and profession seems a little more ethical. BUT, that's not how the story goes, She HAD the babies and then killed them.. THAT IS WRONG no matter who you are..

I can't believe you people answering this question. The woman is insane. She is clearly pro life, because she won't use birth control. She probably has some sort of insane reaction at birth and loses control of her senses. Though I am strongly pro abortion, this case does not apply. I think it is a waste of time for the pro lifers and me.

Don't get me wrong, I support pro-choice all the way. But I think terminating your own pregnancy is pretty gross. Maybe one could be dismissed, but 4???? I think they need to step in and get this woman some birth control!

What was the charge? Practicing medicine without a license?
Seriously, this sounds like a tragic situation. Maybe she needs psychiatric help.
