Some women drink and smoke pot and have a healthy baby but they would be VERY lucky. The vast majority deliver underweight babies prematurely with all sorts of health problems.
Please do what you can to help your friend quit. Help her get on a plan and stick to it.

I am 8 weeks and have given up - My mum said if she had not given up when she had me the docs said i would have not made it as I was so premature and smoking can restrict growth of your baby. A friend of mine also smoked throughout her pregnancy and when her son was born he was tiny and wasn't growing in line with other children his age. I do think it looks horrible to see a pregnant woman smoking the looks you must get - I don't wanna sound harsh but surely you could give up if you really wanted to. Why not put the money you spend on smoking into buying things for the baby instead - could be a good incentive. good luck.

My mom didn't drink while she was pregnant with me but she did smoke pot and cigarettes and other than being really small at birth I am ok. I have been real healthy all my life and no problems. It would be for the best though if your friend did stop smoking and drinking. It is better to be safe than to be sorry. Smoking and drinking can cause birth defects and some other serious problems so it is best to avoid those things while pregnant.

I was a teacher for students with special needs. I have seen many children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. It is the leading cause of brain damage! The poor baby's brain is literally growing in a alcohol soaked environment.
The thing is we don't know how much alcohol is too much.
Is it one glass or wine? Or two? Or more?
It really is not worth the risk. Pregnancy is not a life sentence. It is only 9 months and it could damage her baby for the rest of it's life (and hers).
You should definitely encourage your friend to get help.

You never know if it will damage the baby or not, but I do know that if you love your child you should not do those things while expecting or ever for that matter. You have every right to be concerned it just showes you are a good friend.

Some people do it through the whole pregnancy and the baby is just fine, but it is not healthy. Not at all!
I would have to say that it is not fair to do that to the baby. The baby did not ask to be brought into this world.
I wish her the best of luck.

I was stupid when I was carrying my children (yes, both times) and continued to smoke. It had no obvious long term affects on either of them. But knowing what I know today, I'd not recommend a pregnant woman smoking anything at all.
Good luck to your friend.

Damage to the child is going to happen.
Maybe the mother of this child should be reported as maybe she does not deserve to bring this child up.

some people have but that doesn't make it right. some people do crack and their babies are fine. it;s incredibly selfish to even run that risk and it just makes me sick. if they can't give those up for their own children, they shouldn't be having them until they are more mature and stable and less selfish and ignorant.
