Please stop by your local chevy dealership.Take your uplander to the service dept.Have the shop foreman drive with you. This will help find out if this is a minor or major problem.Hope this helps.

Sounds like cupped tires, I don't know what brand or type of tires you have but I had 3 pair of AT radials cup on my Silverado and they would just howl like tractor tires. It was the tread pattern on mine causing the tire to overheat the tread surface, it was discontinued and reintroduced with a new tread pattern but wait this was your problem we're supposed to be discussing. It's that or possibly rear end whine from a crush sleeve not being completely set and now letting the pinion walk and took out the pinion bearing which in a van that will act like a big megaphone amplifying the bearing grinding sound. That is speculation as I don't even know what axle is in an uplander but I used to work in a drivelne shop building axles and probably have 200 or more GM 10 or 12 bolts that I've built to base that speculation on. A special cut of ping and pinion are made for vans to help alleviate the gear whine in a van, and none that I built ever howled.
