Because Rove told them if he didn't wait until this year to introduce his bill, the Republicans were going to take an even worse beating at the polls than they actually did in '06.

By waiting he bought time to spin the issue enough to make it look like the Democrats fault.

They don't want to fix the problem, for them it has been a solution. Illegals have been cheap labor for American businesses, doing jobs Americans don't really want. For pay most Americans would not accept. If we make them legal American businesses have to pay them the minimum wage. Not to mention the cost of actually enforcing the immigration reform. Immigrations has been made difficult and painfully slow for years. While at the same time the border security and enforcement has been obviously weak. Our government either wanted illegal aliens in our country, or our elected Government is incredibly stupid and incompetent.

bush and company has, since the beginning, been trying to take away the borders between Canada, US, and mexico. As far as they are concerned it is a waste of time to try and enforce the border. Why do you think bush does not want the immigration laws on the books enforced.

Bush favors amnesty, the GOP doesn't. All attempts to get something done have failed, to continue to try will waste time. This problem will get handled by the next administration. To say they did nothing is wrong, the fact is you need a majority of votes to make a bill law and it's not the GOP's fault they couldn't get it.

it particularly is an tremendously good question. I even have racked my recommendations attempting to confirm why bush replaced into pushing the amnesty bill. why did he not close the borders and institute some form of lockdown on our borders. all this bonehead and his minions ever observed replaced into scuffling with terrorism over there in "irack". yet he might as properly as dissolved the borders. he additionally tried to tutor the ports over to a pair center jap united states of america. if that they had a reason, they did not something different than blame the dems for desirous to do what they themselves have been doing already. i think of i study that paul is for stringent administration of our borders. yet he hasn't a lot hazard, i don't think of.

Because no politician wants to get rid of the illegals. The Democrats think they belong here, and the Republicans do not want to damage their relationship with big business. It is not going to happen. If it was, then why hasn't construction on the fence began? We might as well get ready for some kind of amnesty. It will happen whether we want it or not.

Bush was going to work with Vincente Fox before 9/11 to open the border, increase work visas, and build up northern Mexico's infrastructure in order to raise living conditions there.

When the terrorists struck, that all went away. Since 2001 there have been more pressing issues until recently and now nobody can agree and end up trying to pass worthless legislation which is bad for all involved.

In the US, we have a history of not attempting to stop illegal immigration. President Eisenhower was the last to put a stop to it. Ask President Bush. See if he will even answer the question.

What makes you think the Republican party is against illegal immigration. It's simple.

American corporations own American politics. American corporations want cheap labor. American politicians want the Hispanic vote. It's a win-win for American corporations and American politicians while the people of America lose.
