I am a new breeder and I just got my female and babies. I'm a little scard because I heard baby lizards die fast. I gave them some ants and they LOVED it! I want to know what kinds of other foods I can feed them. The babies are brown anoles. The mother doesn't care for them at all so I'm sure that means I'm the new mother. The mother is like a light red, VERY PRETTY!!! As soon as I find a good male for her I would like to sell the babies I have now. Until then, how do I care for my baby lizards like a real mother lizard would????

Thanks Me! I wanna be a good breeder. I have a nice big cage that I put them in and they like it. I also found a abanden bird nest so I put it in their cage too. Its sooooooo cute when they ride around the cage on their mother! They really do! Thank you Me! I may choose you as best answer!

Thank you Iva. I do not feed them crickets though.
I feed them already killed black ants and they love it. I also feed them black ants (From my finger so they don't kill the little ones) Beetle legs, butterfly wings and I put a bowl full of water in their cage, its filled with rocks so they don't drown and can just drink the water from the rocks. Is this okay?

The mother cares for them a bit. The babies will sometimes climb on her back and ride around the tank like that. What does that mean?

Oh dear...

Although many say that lizards eat their babies, my leopard gecko is the most maternal ever! I don't even think that behavior is observed among breeders of geckos. My personal feeling is that in the shoeboxes these poor animals are kept, many act like zoo animals with "caged dementia." Since they are endemic to Afghanistan/Pakistan, we aren't able to study their behavior in teh wild, and can only go by the voice of "gecko mills."

Feed the babies pinhead crickets. You can buy them online. If they like ants, gutload them! Feed the ants good veggies, grains and fruits tehn give them to the babies.

The more you treat the mother like a well kept pet, the better she will react to those babies. Give her extra calcium, keep the tank clean, and never let her food run empty. Good luck

also what you need to know is that baby crickets - the best and most convenient food for your babies - can harm the baby anoles seriously! if you leave uneaten crickets in the tank, they may and will NIBBLE AT your lizards, especially overnight. i am not kidding. if they dont maul them or eat their eyes, they will at least annoy them badly. you must not leave excess amount of uneaten crickets for long and you must give the crickets some food otherwise you are askiing for trouble sooner or later

also - little lizards need water and are as a rule too dumb to drink from a bowl, whilst they can drown easily in a larger one, so thay need droplets of water sprayed on leaves

i hope your children will thrive!

anoles are carniverous and larger adults will eat the babies. i would suggest putting them in a seperate cage and feeding them baby crickets or mealworms. regardless of what some will tell you about the mothering nature of lizards, they are cold blooded and do not nurture their young. the crocodile family are the only reptiles that do. if you want your lizards to survive put them in a seperate cage pronto!
