I think that asking an immigrant to "fully integrate" is asking a little too much. To want a better life for yourself or your family should not mean losing touch with who you are, and your culture and heritage make up a pretty big part of that.
I do agree that some effort should be made. You should at least be able to speak the language well enough that a majority of the indigenous popluation are able to understand you with a minimum of effort.
In terms of appearance, I'm just guessing that you are referring to those who virtually cover their bodies. I think in this instance, if they are aware that what they are wearing is causing discomfort to others because it is so considerable different to what the indigenous popluation are accustomed to, some consideration should be shown.
The last point I'd like to make is in terms of religion and beliefs. If your belief system is so vastly different to those of the area/country into which you *choose* to move, you should not expect the population to change to suit your needs.
Essentially, the host country should not be expected to vastly alter its ideals and practices for those who choose to relocate, as for the most part, the host country's position will likely be widely known before someone decides to move. On the other hand, a person should not be forced to change every aspect of their identity just to fit into what has already become a multi-cultural society. Each must be willing to give a little, but the person who decides to leave one area for another should reasonably be expected to adapt more than their host.

Most immigrants do NOT choose to not speak like the indigenous population. Learning a foreign language, especially when you are older, is very, very difficult. Some people have the knack, but many do not. You do not magically learn a language without help. I happen to volunteer for a literacy organization that teaches English to people from other countries, and guess what? My organization is desperately looking for volunteers. Few people want to help, and this is true for similar organizations all over the country. It is one of the big hypocrisies of the anti-immigration movement. You really want these people to integrate? Then what are you doing to help them? Hmm...

To a certain extent I odn't care what they look like. Althugh I draw the line at veils.
But I do think they should speak effortless English. My daughter was seriously ill and Ihad two doctors, one Chinese and one Spanish. Both were poor in their English language skills. It was dreadful.
I went to hospital myself recently and quite a few of the nurses didn't not speak good English.

Why don't you ask this question to the thousands of Brits abroad who always complain that shop, restaurant, hospital etc, etc, staff don't speak English?
And it's "indigenous" - PS Anglo-Saxons are immigrants - they did not adapt to speak the Celtic languages that were spoken in these islands when they arrived - The Celts originated in Anatolia (modern day Turkey) and the Romans were a conscript army from all over the place - North Africa, East Asia, the Middle East - so who are the so-called "indigenous" people -
You w*nker

In my job, you have to have good communication skills, and not being able to understood and understand what is being said is a big no. Without this basic skill, you wouldn't have my job.
