I like to do both to keep a balance, when my brain tires of numbers I switch to words.
If I'm right, I think different parts of the brain are used for words to numbers, so some people are better at one and others the other. It's down to choice and depends on whether a person has a logical mind or prefers to use knowledge, and what individually is the most challenging and stimulating.
Whichever is chosen it's a good idea to remember to balance the mental exercise with physical to keep the circulation going.

I think those are great ideas! But, not all of us, are good at crossword puzzles and I can't for the life of me figure out Sudoku. I think that reading and learning new things is good for the brain. I read somewhere, that learning a new language is great exercise for the brain. Right now, my biggest challenge has been learning the computer and getting out on the Internet. I have learned a lot. And Yahoo Answers has helped me through this Giant Task.

I love sudoku. I've been doing them since I could count. I haven't done a crossword puzzle in a while so I'm not sure how well I'd do... Ill definitely try it out just to see how I am. I used to suck at them. But then again last time I tried one I was probably 8.

Absolutely.
I'm middle-aged, and I do Sudoku puzzles on my phone in the mornings during my "reading time". It really wakes up my brain.
Check out http://www.sudokufool.com and http://www.crosswordlovers.com for some great Sudoku, Crossword and Word Search puzzles.

Never spent time with crosswords, someone gave me a sudoku book at retirement, never read the instructions, figured out the first two puzzles before reading them. So, no.

Puzzles of any kind exercise my mind and keep it functioning properly. It's the old adage: If you don't use it, you lose it.

I work with numbers, myself. But, I don't consider myself a senior. What age qualifies for that distinction.
