I had the SunRocket VoIP router and it connected to my network using the standard RJ45 Ethernet connector. I had it plugged into my router and it worked fine. The documentation showed that it should have been installed between the modem and the router but after talking with the customer service people from SR, they said that there wasn't any reason it couldn't run behind the router. They said that it was just a single configuration to explain to customers rather than making things difficult.

Oh, SunRocket is no longer in business so just a word of caution when dealing with the Internet VoIP providers. Check the companies background and watch for pay up front contracts. I was 5 months into a year long contract with SunRocket when they went under. I paid the $199 for the year up front and have no way to get a refund now that they closed up.

If you are talking about Vonage/Lingo/Cable provider phone then all it is is a box that you plug a network line from your modem then out to your computer(if you have a router then just come out from the router to it) Then you will plug your phone line straight into it. If you have any wiring ability you can take a long phone line and plug it into the internet phone box and take the cable strip it at the end and use the phone companies box outside to distribute the phone line throughout the house to all of your jacks just like the land line. Good Luck HTH.
