Knock on his/her door and have a seat. Say: Mr/Mrs/John/Sue, I have some news. I would like to discuss it with you before word gets out as I feel I have a responsibility towards you. I just found out i am 6 weeks pregnant and I will be delivering in May 2008. How does the companies maternity policy work? Mmmm. depends on your relationship with your boss. All the best!

Wait until you are past 12 weeks (unless you are so sick that you need to explain your absences...) and then just tell them. You don't have to decide for a while if you are coming back after your Mat. leave, but your boss might want to know what you are planning. You cannot be fired because you are pregnant, and most states have labor laws in place that will allow you to have your pre-natal appointments without jeopardizing your job. Good luck!

Wait until you have reached your second trimester. Once you have reached it, it will be the perfect time to tell. You HAVE to tell them by a certain time, by law. Second trimester I believe. If you wait to tell them past that time, they can cancel your maternity leave becuase "you didn't tell them in time". This law makes it so the company can make the appropraite accomodations for when you go out on maternity leave. Once you have figured out the time to tell, request a meeting with just the principals whether it be one or four. Don't act like you ashamed, don't act liek you are scared. Go in there, KNOWING what you want to say and letting them know that, that is the way its gonig to be. Let them know that you are pregnant, let them know your due date, and let them know that prior to each appointment that you have you will give them a notice. Also let them know for how long you plan to be working. Make sure what you day, is clean, and STRAIGHT to the point. Do NOT leave anything up in the air. It will cause many complications. By doing this, you let them know that they have NO choice but to accomodate you and your new upcoming birth. GOOD LUCK!

When I told my boss, I went in, in person. Told him that I had some good news and that I was pregnant. Don't apologize or be ashamed. It's easy to fall into that trap, since as women we feel guilty, but we should not. Be proud and explain that in no way will this effect your performance.(barring unforseen medical problems, or aspects of the job that you may not be able to continue with, depending on what your job is).

I had planned on announcing it to all the girls at a cookout but my boss walked up to me while I was getting food and said..."Hey, I have this odd feeling that your pregnant, because your belly looks alittle bigger and your like glowing"
I started laughing and I just said "funny you mentioned that!" I was only 12 or 14 weeks so it was weird that she sensed it!

You shouldn't be ashamed or stressed out. This is the best time in your life. Be happy and proudly announce that youre pregnant and maybe have a baby shower with your family, then with the people you work with.

I'm glad you have ask this question. Cos i'm now 12 weeks pregnant but i've not told my boss. Just dunno the "correct" way. I've no morning sickness and look a bit bloated. No one in the office suspect, but the tummy is showing!
I think i'll just walk to him and tell him i'm going to take leave next year and be a mummy!
Congrats!

Well, not everyone can do it like this, but I had a miscarriage and like an excited dumby I told EVERYONE! So this time around, I waited and I said... "Have I ever told you I was pregnant?" And he was like "Again?" It was too funny. Best of luck! Come join us pregnant ladies at
