Very simple answer to that one
you're only suppose to leave the light on for 10-12 hours during the day and 12-14 hours off at night (a timer will help)

The reason you don't see him moving much is because bottomfeeders are night active

My advice, turn off the light at night and watch, you will see that he comes out of his cave and will go looking for food

Hope that helps
Good luck

Erosion of a catfish's barbels ("whiskers") can be caused by ammonia burn, infections, sharp-edged gravel or other sharp or rough objects in the tank, or, of course, other fish biting them. Given that you apparently have a 20-gallon tank with a bunch of other fish in it, ammonia buildup is my first guess. Even if your filter is cycled and works very well, nitrate will build up, which also becomes toxic at a high enough dose. Make some large water changes (50% or more each day) and see if things improve. If you have a puffer in the tank, it is not at all unlikely that the puffer is biting pieces off of the bullhead's barbels. If the bullhead won't swim around, it may be intimidated by all those other fish. Try feeding it at night when you turn the lights off. Also, be sure the catfish has lots of "caves" and other hiding places where it can get away from the other fish. Yet another problem is that you have a bullhead, which is a temperate-zone fish, in with a bunch of tropical fish, so the temperature is probably wrong for the bullhead. But I doubt that that's the most severe problem at this point.

Many catfish are nocturnal. Maybe put some water in the tank. HA Ha Ha

NO, really. A lot of fresh water cats are nocturnal. I had a bumble bee cat that only came out at night, and after the first week. He was the only fish in the tank because he ate everyone else

I recommend getting some more fish. They thrive off of other fish interaction. Either that or get a couple more catfish. I've got 3 cory cats in both of my tanks, just so they have each other to atleast keep them company. He might be frightened though too

Catfish don't really swim around much, they just kind of stay in one place on the bottom. They are bottom feeders and like to eat the droppings from other fish so get some more fish.

catfish are nocturnal but thats obvious as said before, they like to hide during the day but if you leave them with no light at night they will swim around, mine like to do circles and ride the oxygen bubbles up and down, try sneeking up on them at night and turning ona light you will see them for a split secon before they return to the darkness

depending what kind of catfish he is - the likelihood is he may be nocturnal , if its a corydora it may be the lack of other fish as they may need reassurance by the presence of "dither" fish that there are no predators around.
