Yes, I heard that. Anyway, how he made his money doesn't really have anything to do with his country's ailing economy. He made it owing to the fact that his company's stock prices soared up, due to high demand of it from investors all around the globe. Which, obviously pushed him all the way to the top of Forbes list.

People like "the master" above have no idea what they're talking about. He runs a monopoly, always had. He received TELMEX (Teléfonos de México) from the then president Carlos Salinas on a silver platter and had no competition during 15 years. Along with his cell-phone company, TELCEL, he owns nearly 90% of Mexico's phone and cell-phone market. That's where tha major part of his wealth comes from. He also owns Grupo Carso, which includes among others, Sanborns, a department store, Bachoco, poultry, Inbursa, banking, etc. Though these are not monopolies. As I've said, it is from the phone industry where he gets his money. Though he will often deny that it's a monopoly he DOES have monopolistic power, he managed to control over 85% of the phones here in Mexico because during 15 years or so he had no one to compete with.

That is true, but most of his money is in the stock market. If the market crashes, he can lose the majority of his net worth in minutes. Bill Gates has more diversified assets that do not tie him as strongly to the market.

Well then why doesn't HE build corporations in Mexico and make an economy for them so they'll stay there? Their economy is ailing, and he is the richest man in the world. Makes you wonder how he made his money.
