Joe Montana was by far the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL. With him, and the greatest coach of all time Bill Walsh (R.I.P.), the 49ers were almost unbeatable in the 1980's.

Joe Montana was asked that question and his response was Otto Graham who played ten seasons. He went to ten championship games winning seven of them. Problem is I am old but not that old to have seen Graham play. Of the quarterbacks I have seen play I would choose Joe. He delivered in the clutch. Also to his credit he had Tommy John surgery to his elbow and back surgery as well. He is an amazing player and he was not a big man. Remember when he played you could still punish the quarterback.

I don't think you can pick one. If you have to I think you go back to Unitas.
My picks:
All time - older era Unitas
Current time - Elway
Current Sheer Numbers - Marino
Hard to leave out Bradshaw with 4 super bowl rings and I think he and Montana are great just part of great teams.
All time favorite though is still Namath.

I would have to go with Montana also. But, Marino, Unitis, Elway, and Peyton Manning are right up there with him.

Before 1978 and a change in NFL rules.......John Unitas. After 1978 it would be Joe Montana..........and in about ten years or 20 depending on how long he plays it will be Peyton Manning.
