Has anyone ever met or known an elector? Do they always vote the way their state votes?

pink,
You have two good answers and it would be a better process if most of the "electors" were college professors not beholden to a particular party.

Having said that:

The electors are generally selected because of their “service” to their POLITICAL PARTY”!

I suppose that many or even most people find no problem with this. I do have a problem with the process as it elevates a political party with something that should be respected enough to actually select the president.
The sad fact is that over the decades political parties are mostly qualified more for prison time than picking a president.

I agree with our first President when he warned the American People, in his published farewell address printed in the nation’s newspapers, NOT to adopt a two party system.

Did we listen? NO! What did we gain by ignoring this very good advice? Sadly, the pathetic system we now suffer.

My favorite professor in college was a Presidential Elector in the Electoral College. He always voted true to the state vote, and he had a lot of respect for the process. Of course, he was an American Government professor, so he knew more about it than most.

The "Electoral College" is a "college" in the same sense that the "College of Cardinals" in the Roman Catholic Church is. The chief difference is that the Electoral College is only formed during each Presidential election, and membership in this "College" is not permanent.
