I hooked up the first battery under the hood. The second RV battery goes on the chassis. The owner before used orange and black and I thought orange was positive. I connected the orange to the positive and zapped the battery pretty good. Still stupid on my part but the batteries don't have any charge. Did I ruin the one or both?

As mentioned normally hooking a battery up backwards will not ruin the battery.

Chances are you need to simply throw them on a slow charge over night and should be good to go. Worst case take them to an AutoZone, they can charge and test them free of charge.

However, on the car if you noticed a giant spark the vehicles main fuse should of blown. What this does is stop all power from going anywhere protecting the vehicles circuitry; altenator, starter, ignition system, etc. So if when you do get the batteries recharged or new batteries and have absolutely no power at all chances are this fuse is blown and needs to be replaced.

I think the batteries will be OK. I'd be more worried about the alternator. I would have it checked before heading out on the road.

Probably not, the big danger to hooking one up backwards is an explosion.
