The ocean is deep and largely unexplored, so its highly likely that it is home to many rare creatures that haven't been discovered. Giant squids are among one of the rare creatures that turn up unexpectedly, so it would be no surprise if they found one that was gargantuan!

As for the Kraken, I feel bad that people only find out about incredible mythological creatures through movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter, but I guess that's how kids are being introduced to mythology these days. I'll admit, my first run-in with a Kraken was as a boss in the first Final Fantasy game on the NES back in 1990...

Right, no. The "Kraken" is a Germanic sea monster, no Greek, and it was originally a giant crab-like monster (not a squid/octopus thingy). It was as large as an island and would surface right when ships were over it (essentially leaving the crew helpless). Alternately, sailors would land on it, thinking it was land, only to have it dive before they could get back to their boat.

We know it is german because of the name. The "en" ending on "Kraken" is the old germanic ending for "the." As such, calling it "the Kraken" is akin to saying "ATM Machine" or "PIN Number."

As for it really existing. Yeah, no.

Well, its funny that you talk about the Kraken like its an original Pirates of the Carribean idea. The Kraken is from ancient greek mythology and was in the movie "clash of the titans" WAYYYY before it was in Pirates.

There are giant squid certainly big enough to terrorize a sailor into calling it a kraken--which, I believe, is where the stories originated.

Yes.

In the past, sailors who claimed to have seen the kraken (squid version) were ridiculed in much the same way as are people today who claim to have seen an abominable snowman or cadborosaurus. (And in much the same way as some of these people who don't know what they're talking about are trying to ridicule you.)

The kraken in wild tales do not exist, but giant squids do, and they are probably responsible for such tales.

Whatever makes u happy but I'd rather stick with the reality that imaginary creatures don't exist.

Unicorns would exist too, if somebody decided to (re)name an existing species as unicorn.
