I love to write and my dream before I turn 18 (I'm 13) is to be a published author, but since I am a perfectionist and can't stick with one thing I hardly ever see that happening. I always have book ideas and once I think of the idea I write a few pages of the book, then I think of another book idea and completely blow the other one away. So now, I'm stuck with about 40 unfinished books in my computer (I'm dead serious...). I just want to stick with one book and finish it without thinking of another idea or ignoring it....can you help me.....

Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much!

I know how you feel, I went through that when I first started writing seriously. So, I have quite a few tips for you.

The first thing and maybe the most important is to get a notebook or create a file that is just for ideas. When they strike, write them down and any details that come to you, then go back to what you were doing. You can come back to ideas later as long as you write them down.

Another tip is to "flesh out" your characters and your story before you actually start writing. If you have well defined characters and know where the story is going before you write a word, it is A LOT easier to keep pushing forward with what you are working on when another idea strikes you.

You can also find a more experienced author or a teacher who can help keep you on track or join a writing group. When you have to have something for someone to look at it forces you to write and if someone is expecting more to a story that will help keep you moving on what you are doing.

There are lots of excellent books on writing, if that's something that might help you. Books on writing are not helpful to everyone, but if you haven't read any give them a try. Check out a few from your library.

This is largely going to be about discipline. Can you discipline yourself enough to keep going on an idea? Pick one and stick with it. You don't have to ingore the other ideas that come to you; in fact you shouldn't. But you don't have to act on them either.

Edit: You are NOT to young to write! If you can hold a pencil or type you can write. Most really talented writers have been writing since they first learned how to form sentences.

I wrote a book a few years back and never thought I would be able to do it. What helped was I took online classes with Gotham writers workshop. I've enclosed the link where you can check out their classes because this will help you become more disciplined and organized. I learned a lot and took classes for two years.

Do not let anyone discourage you From writing. Stephen King started writing his first stories when he was eight years old. And look at how successful he became.

I've also enclosed a link where you can read three chapters of my book for free. If you have any questions let me know.

I had the same problem as you. It took me many years to finally finish that book but finish it I did and now have 2 books published and another to be released within the next few months.

Sometimes we stop doing something because we are afraid that we will fail. So we begin a project and just let it stay dormant. I say everyone has at least one book inside of them. Sit down and finish one. Even if it is not good enough to be published, it will be there for your friends and family to enjoy and who knows you may be the next Hemingway.

The important thing to remember is that you and you alone can write your story. Go to it, you can get it done.

You are too young to write a book!!! That doesn't means you can't write it!!! I have experienced the same thing many times!!! Continue the story which is bigger or I would suggest a fantasy story!!! Remember to believe in yourself!!!
