I think the real problem is actually the consultants who do not warn people of the risks of interventions such as epidurals and inductions which only increase the likihood of caesareans. Hardly anyone I know realise that it is actually major surgery and it increases the chances of your baby developing problems with their lungs.
Our midwifes are losing out on their skills with vaginally breech and twins births how many medical people actually inform you that it is possible? Breech birth can be more risky and it is vital that our midwifes do not lose their valuable experience due to consultant's timetable and hospital policies.

There's a choice? Seems to me that the baby chooses, not the woman. My daughter was 9 pounds 10 ounces and 22 inches long and I tried for 2-1/2 hours to push her out. So much so I stopped contracting and the top of her head was out. After 2-1/2 hours, they finally said she's not coming out and went for c-section. They had to actually push her back in from below to get her out that way! I'm 100% sure (unless I mate with a very small man, which I wouldn't 'cause I like 'em tall :-) ) that I'd have a c-section next time knowing the history. We know a 9 pound baby will not fit. People have VBAC's (vaginal birth after c-section) all the time depending on the reason for the c-section, though.
Regarless, having a C-Section is not lazy or vain. There is alot more pain for a longer period of time and a permanent scar on her body forever. If the woman got to choose, if she was lazy, I think she's pick the shorter pain period and if she was vain, I think she'd choose the vaginal birth which doesn't leave a scar (unless she has an episiotomy, but that's not normally visible).

I dont see how they can be lazy because its very hard to get over having a caesarean, u dont just jump out of bed a few hours later with a neat little scar, its hard work. First of all it hurts just to stand straight and then its like someone has sucked out all ur energy and strength, it takes weeks and weeks to get back to ur normal self. You cant even walk to the toilet let alone the end of the street at first. Your skin is numb an inch above and below ur scar and feels weird to touch because there is no feeling there. And its scary going to have an operation which could end up killing u or injuring an organ. Why would anyone choose to have this happen to them? where is the vanity in having a catheter in for a day and a pessary being inserted into ur bum?

C- sections should not be a choice and should not be an option in childbirth unless absolutely necessary. People need to realise that a caesarean is a major operation and it takes time to recover from so Doctors should not be allowed to perform an 'elected C-section' just because the women wants one. She should have to go through labour like everyone else does.
Caesareans should be used ONLY on medical grounds when there is a risk to either the mother or baby.

thiis is the reason: When is a Caesarean necessary?
In some situations a Caesarean may be the only safe option for mother and baby, for example when:
the placenta lies so low in the uterus that it covers the exit to the birth canal (cervix). This is called placenta praevia.
the obstetrician finds out that baby's health is threatened due to lack of oxygen.
there is vaginal bleeding and a natural delivery is not about to happen.
the umbilical cord falls forwards and the baby cannot be delivered easily (a condition known as cord prolapse).
it becomes clear during labour that the mother will be unable to deliver the baby herself.
In other situations a Caesarean may be considered the safest option even though a vaginal birth is a possibility:
if the baby is lying with its head upwards (breech baby).
if the mother is affected by high blood pressure or other illness.
if the unborn baby is too small or too weak to survive a natural birth.
if the mother has had a Caesarean birth before (although it is possible for a mother who's had a Caesarean to have a vaginal delivery in a later pregnancy).
in very rare cases, when the mother is so anxious about the delivery that a Caesarean is considered.
If you wish to have a Caesarean section without a medical reason, you should discuss this with your obstetrician. You don't have an automatic right to demand a Caesarean if it's considered not to be in your best interests medically.
so i quote it is not lazy or vain people have it for a reason not because they are vain or lazy......

Neither. From what I can tell, many women are afraid of vaginal births thinking that a c/section is the "easier" way to go. Hopefully they are being told by their ob/gyn that it's definitely NOT easier, and that it's major surgery, that c/sections are to be done only in the case of emergency, if the baby/mom is in distress and if a vaginal birth is definitely impossible.
I myself had two emergency c/sections, the second being much more painful than the first.
I can't see why a woman who chooses a c/section would be considered vain -- if one was vain, then one would not want the huge scar left on her belly.

Carrying a child and giving birth is neither lazy or vain (regardless of the method of birth). It is both hard work and very painful!
My wife was in active labour for many hours. Our baby was 9lbs 11ozs and she was in agony because he was so big. She even pushed out the cervix and they had to get her to stop pushing and push the baby back in to get everything back in. She did have a 'natural' birth and our baby is 7 months old. However, she is still experiencing pain and struggles to have sex. We wanted more children but the thoughts of having a natural birth has put my wife off having more.

It 's all what women prefer. I would much rather recover from a natural birth but thats my opion. My friend much rather have caesareans but she never had a natural. It think some women are not lazy but afraid of natural and then is looked at as lazy!

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that women are allowed the choice to have this done outside of medical reasons. It is a sign of the times unfortunately. I also find it absurd that women can bring their deliveries forward if it does not tie in with their plans they can arrange to be induced at a date convenient to them. If a mother cant set time aside to actually give birth to her own baby because something more important takes presidents then maybe she shouldn't have got pregnant in the first place. Medical reasons I understand completely.

the rate of c-sections are rising, i personally didn't want one but had no choice when i went into labor and wasn't dialating and my baby's heart rate was decreasing due to lack of oxygen. a lot of doctors won't admit this but they would rather do a c-section because of the money. if they find ONE thing wrong then c-section it is. so do i think people who choose to have one lazy or vain, no because its just as much time and effort recovering, it probably is more pain. i think they are scared and think surgery is the better answer
