he's a little over 4 months and since about 2 months he's been fussing through EVERY feed.. sometimes more than others, but some fussing every time.. He has tried Zantac, and is on Hypoallegenic formula.. he doesnt have reflux, so meds were stopped. I feel it's the nipple he doesnt like.. not so much as the nipple, but the flow.. We have tried Ventair, dropins , drbrowns, gerber, nuk, now trying avent.. And he's using niplpe with 1 hole, which is ment for Newborns... So sometimes he gets frustrated b/c its too slow.. then when i switch to next one up, he chokes himself and swallows air... Arrggghhh... so i try making hole bigger with every bottle he's tried... just not working.. Anyone else had this problem?

My daughter is on the hypoallergenic formula also and had some of the same problems. I bet the flow rate is way to slow for him. Try the #2 nipple ( I believe it is the 1month+ one) Give him time on it...it took my daughter a few feeding to get the hang of the quicker flow rate. She is now 6 months old and on #3 nipple from Advent....Good luck...I know how frustrating it is (and how expensive the hypo formula is!!)

By the way, you were sold a bill of goods, there is NO SUCH THING as a hypoallergenic formula. If it's not from a human, it's not hypoallergenic.

I would suspect not only the nipple, but the formula as well.

To be specific, here are some of the ingredients in hypoallergenic formula: corn syrup solids, casein hydrolysate, modified corn starch, carrageenan--those are ALL things your baby could be allergic or sensitive to.

Contact your doctor, you might have to change your baby to a different formula. You might even ask about getting human milk from a milk bank.

I recently just went through this with my 3 month old son. I had to buy Level 2 nipples. I use Dr Brown bottles. I know you mentioned using level 2 nipples and the flow was coming too fast. Did you try the Dr Browns? I tried the Vent Aire Level 2 nipples and that flow was way too fast. Dr Brown's was just right. My son stopped tossing his head around and squirming through his feedings. Now we actually enjoy feeding him again!

I didnt have this problem because I nursed. Another reason why my life with baby was and is soooo simple and easy.

I would say, if he's fussy WHILE eating and not after it most likely is the nipple. Make sure eating is a quiet routine time each day, andlet him get over it. I would give him the two hole nipple and just help him to slow down and relax through it.

A lot of the time we can make things more frustraiting for our babies just because we react to them, it shows them how to react, by freaking out.

He'll out grow it.

Also, he's four months, its quite possible that he's teething. My son every since teething started fusses like a mad man while nursing. Their jaws get sore.

Did you buy the level 3 nipples for the dr. browns? They should be perfect.
