my pre-installed Norton just isn't working out for me. I'm installing AOLAVS but I'll need a firewall too. whats the best free firewall or is there any free complete sets that will do it like Norton (but better) ?
or is the Windows defender good enough?

Complete suites are the way to go. You will be protected against not just viruses but all forms of malware and a decent firewall will keep the hackers away. There are 5 options on the link below and all are much better than Nortons.

Unless you have the most recent version of Norton, it won't work under Vista.

The built-in Windows Defender is a good-enough firewall if you're running a workstation. If you're running a server that will be exposed to the outside world, then you probably want to look at something more than that.
