I think ignoring her is the wrong way to go as it's only creating more negativity. Whenever I come across people like this{and there are a few} i find that killing them with kindness always works. If you are over the top nice to her she'll have to be nice back to you, and it'll really piss her off.

I don't see how someone (above) can call you selfish from what you've said but oh well ...
It is quite possible the woman suffers an illness or tragedy that you're not aware of though. I had a colleague I felt similarly about. It turned out his one true love, his wife of 20 years had died aged 41 of cancer. Once he felt safe to tell me this and once I showed that he could trust me with his grief (guys are scared people will make fun of them for having emotions), we got on wonderfully and I slowly saw him go through the stages of grieving to the point where he celebrated his wife's existence. He's now a happy, but single man.
Don't be nosey but do give the opportunity to open up.

ask if you've done anything to offend her, be honest and tell her how u feel about her attitude towards you. If you're not satisfied with the outcome, just stay out of her way and let her be a miserable nasty frump on her own. At least u can hold your head high knowing you've done all u can.

Some people are just never happy, and she is apparently one of them. They thrive on finding fault with everyone, and their outlook is just truly grim. You are doing the right thing in that you are doing your best to work hard and be cooperative, and I agree that ignoring her seems to be the best bet. Good luck.

I always try to think what could make a person act like that. I mean it's not enjoyable to act that way.
So there's probably alot going on in her private life. Feel sympathy for her that she has to act that way and don't take it personally.

So.... this is the first grumpy person you have come across in your life..... and you are emotionally unequipped to deal with it ....and require validation from a bunch of strangers on an answer forum? Is that a fair summary????
