Why is professional baseball such a joke and full of hypocrites?

Ok, in baseball, you can take drugs to enhance your game (Bonds) but if you are caught betting on the game, you are banned for life (Pete Rose). What about Mark Mcguire?

Bonds continues to be cheered on even though everyone knows he is reaching this goal by cheating. If in bicycling, what would have happened to Lance Armstrong if he was under the same situation that Bonds is in?

Does this mean that Michael Vick should have played baseball and fought his dogs? Baseball has never been the same since the strike and, in my opinion, should no longer be called America's passtime.

Thank you to the NFL and every other sport out there still keeping the integrity. Why can't baseball have this same ethics?

Yea, the NFL has its problems with Vick. But at least they dealt with it and until further notice, Vick has been told not to return. Why can't baseball do that to Bonds? They have more than enough evidence to indict him.

As for the NBA officiating, guess what, that official won't return to the NBA either until his name is 100% cleared.

These are examples of dealing with problems that are known to be true while they are toggled around the justice system. Baseball has no such morals when it comes to this. Baseball fans who truly believe in the 2nd answer posted are as ignorant as anyone who believes Vick is innocent.

MLB turned a blind eye to steriods in baseball, because it was losing a fan base, and people like power hitting. Even though the use of steriods without a perscription is/was a federal crime MLB did nothing about it until Congress threatened involvement.

Granted the NFL has more than its share of dopers, and has even graver off the field issues with many of its players. The difference between the MLB and NFL is that the NFL is doing something about its off-field problems; Vick has yet to be convicted, which is the argument used to justify not suspending Barry.

The NBA has more off-field problems per player than does MLB. MLB has more players, as does the NFL, which causes problems to seem more common simply do to larger numbers.

International Cycling is perhaps the biggest assortment of dopers in any sports league there is.

I even remember in high school a lot of players using different drugs, all of them legal to buy, which can lower heart rates and relax muscles in order to make you run better. I called out a couple guys on my own squad and told them they were cheaters, but what they did was their business, no laws were broken when they tried for unnatural advantages. Doping occurs in a vast array of forms at nearly every level of competition, solely blaming MLB is a slightly skewed look at the world.

Problem is: Is there any irrefutable proof that Bonds took drugs to enhance his performance? I hear about all the other athletes coming up hot on their tests and then they are banned for a certain period of games. Did Bonds every test positive? I've heard all about how other people are saying he did but that's just someones word against his. Has Bonds come up on any tests recently? Nope, but he continues to hit the home runs. Now, I'm not ruling out the possibility but if there isn't any proof how can you persecute him?
It's hard to say that any sport still has their integrity still intact. Everyone of them has had some type of scandal that puts them into the spotlight. Vick's recent activities has brought the NFL to the limelight and what they are going to do with him. Right now he has only been banned from training camp. What about the season? Endorsements deals have gone out the window. Upper Deck has pulled all of Vick's cards from their products, but there is still a possibility of Vick playing in the season (although it being a small one).
Everything isn't perfect in the world and sometimes you can get away with bending the rules.

The reason why baseball is a joke starts right at the top. When baseball was almost dead, everyone turned thier heads on Sosa and McGuire juicing because their little home run derby was needed to put fans back in the seats.
As to wether Bonds cheated: he's never tested dirty. Anyway, steroids don't give you some kind of instant super power, you have to be a pretty good hitter in the first place. It's more about eye-hand coordination and bat speed than brute power.

The reason Rose was banned for life is because he bet on baseball, which was against the rules. Prior to it happening, they didn't have a rule about steroids (even though it was illegal through law) and the other posters are right, he never did test positive even though his own testimony says he admitted to it.

But Yay to the NFL, what a wholesome league.
Exactly how many players (millionaires yet) have attempted or committed murder? You have people dying in practice from heart attacks related to stimulents and drugs.
Let's not forget that half the reason NFL exists is for gamblers. It wouldn't have half the following it does without vegas. (and people complain about the role of a 'closer', but no one complains about the guy whose sole job is on the defence, on short yards on 3 or 4th down. Now, that's a specialist)

NBA. Now that Toronto has a franchise, they actually have to tell the Toronto players that they aren't allowed to bring up and carry weapons in their cars. Every new player that joins the team, they have to explicitly say "Canada has tight gun controls, you can't carry them on your person, in your vehicle, etc"
You have Kobe accused of rape, gangster franchise players carrying weapons and now the ref fixing games.

The only league more clean than MLB is the NHL.

Your question is based on a fallacy, it is not OK to take drugs in MLB. Those that do face major suspension time and can be banned from the game if caught too many times. The other problem with your statement is the Bonds is cheating, and there has never been and evidence provided by anyone to support your statement. You have come to an inaccurate conclusion based on inaccurate supporting statements.

I wouldn't start throwing stones... MLB is right now considered the league with the LEAST amount of problems. Yes, steroids have become a big issue. But, baseball doesn't have a star player that has been indicted for dog fighting AND they don't have an official that has been investigated by the FBI for betting on games that he worked!

As for Mark McGwire, he has never been mentioned in the steroid circles. Yes, he was a huge man in 1998, but, he was chosen by the government to speak to Congress because Sammy Sosa and himself were considered the biggest stars of the game AT THE TIME. Since his retirement, McGwire has lived a private life with his family.

As for your comment about ethics, I wouldn't exactly tout the NFL as the model league. They have their problems. Yes, Roger Goodell has done a wonderful job in controlling the players. However, the manner of the NFL and MLB are completely different. Many people watch NFL games to see large men beat the crap out of eachother. Others watch MLB games for strategy; skinny guys can contribute as much to a team as large, muscular guys.

You may not agree with my opinion, but I think that my answer is as unbiased as it can be.

The MLB Players Union is too strong. They get guaranteed contracts which is good for the players bank account but save a few does not provide a lot of incentive to play that hard. TheUnion has walked all over Selig for years and will continue to do so unless the Fed can do something. Sad situation though.

No, thats where the difference lies. Pete Rose was caught gambling, as were the 1919 White Sox. You cant be punished if not caught.

Yeah, it's sad. Breaking classic records through drug enhancement isn't really impressive or even respectable. They need to be more consistent with their rules.
