The volcano is what creates the hot springs and geysers. Some are filled with water so corrosive from the sulfuric acids beneath the ground, you cannot go into them. I have seen numerous Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel specials about this topic. It is not and if, but a when, that volcano blows again, it would wipe out much of the midwest from the poisonous gases, ash cloud and heat that would result from the eruption.

It would probably cause global temperature drops much like Krakatoa did because of it's immense size and the volatility of the volcano below ground. The ground has risen dramatically there in the park, employees say that they can actually see the difference that has occured over the years because they are so familiar with the area.

Bill Bryson, in "A Short History of Nearly Everything" has an excellent...and rather frightening......description of Yellowstone and what happened to the world the LAST time Yellowstone blew.......hint: We wont have to worry about Global Warming for a century or so......

the entire park is the volcano, when it goes it will take a a portion of the usa, and send up some much dust the earth will be in darkness it least most of it, long enough to kill off most of the plants, basically when it goes were all screwed
