as an Englishman who is currently in prison in the USA i feel i must ask this.
Most Americans cannot spell properly for example
Color,theater and school
In England we spell these correctly as follows
Colur,theatar,skool
Why havent Americans been to skool or is it too many BigMacs which dull the brain?

I agree with you my British friend. As a person who has studied British English and follows it, I find American English bullsh*t.
Its fcukin depressing. Read this, some words of US English-
1. Capitolism.
2. Harbor
3. Color
4. Math
5. Mustache
6. Savior

Until Johnson's dictionary was published, people spelt words prettye much as they myte sound. Johnson wanted the dictionary to be prescriptive thereby defining the spelling of words but those in control (I don't remember who) commanded that it be descriptive thereby giving the meaning and etymology of a word. In the event the dictionary has become prescriptive as well. Now the point is, this dictionary was first published in 1776, the year that the US declared independence and severed links with the UK

The English language does not originate from America. Therefore the Americans do not care if they are spoiling the language or not. Only an English-English will be worried about the spelling and proper pronunciations.

Because this is America and not England. And by the way , it's school not skool. What is an English spelling bee champion doing in prison here anyway?

I think it was designed to make the language easier for stupid people to understand. They failed really - look at all the daft words they use to replace simple ones. For example people in the UK people would say "I'm moving house next month", whereas an American would say "I'm relocating next month". We would say "I'm going to the loo", they would say "I am going for a commode/defecation interface scenario....dude".
And while we're on the subject Sid, where do they get their date format from? Ours seems to be sensible because the units are in size order, smallest to largest - day/month/year. Theirs is month/day/year - what the devils that all about eh?

We know how to spell. It is you that does not know how to spell. The English spell color "colour." I think you are a fake or you are a stupid Englishman. Either way, the Brits are intelligent and can spell.

This is a very rude question designed to wind everyone up. O.K. some words are spelt differently, but to a trivial extent. The only ones which grate with me are "plow" (plough) and "tire" (tyre - confusing v.v. the verb to tire/be tired).

Because there are two distinct languages ,English English and American English. Both are correct There are also regional variations and dialects. Both forms of English were the same in the 1600's but have evolved differently since, Neither is right and neither is wrong.

You're assuming there are universally objective English spellings and there aren't really.
English doesn't have a central authority which determines standard English, like French does. Standard English is more of a convention.
