If you transform bacteria or yeast that means you introduce foreign DNA into the cell that is then stably carried. You can also have transfection, that is the same procedure only referring to cell cultures. Transfection can be stable or transient and you can also cotransfect of cotransform multiple pieces of DNA in a single reaction. Further transformation can either by electrophoretic or chemical, depending on the strain you are using.
