The same could be said of 'true believers' of many faiths. For instance, promiscuous sex is certainly not espoused by any of the main Christian sects, quite the opposite. A true Christian would abstain from sex until marriage then remain faithful to their partner for life. Another point is that it is often it is not the practices of minorities that people object to it is the fact that it is a minority that is doing it. To clarify: If you said that a Muslim person of an ethnic minority didn't go to pubs because he didn't believe in drinking, many would criticise them for not trying to integrate, they would say have a soft drink etc. However, if a white Evangelical Christian who could trace back their ancestry to Alfred the Great said the exact same thing there would far less protest and especially the point about fitting in, integration and British values etc would not be made. So the problem is often not the message it's the messenger.

I'm wondering when promiscuity and binge drinking were ever elements of English culture...
that's... English CULTURE...
Painters, composers, scientists, philosophers, statesmen, stateswomen and others have contributed to English and British culture and so it was for followers of Islam many centuries ago - the finest mathematicians, scientists and philosophers were Muslim..
Promiscuity and Binge-Drinking have come about because of middle of the road liberal numpties who have allowed the laws of the land to slacken. And those who indulge in Promiscuity and Binge-drinking are putting a strain of the treasury with rises in STDs, unwanted pregnancies, Liver and brain damage.
And FYI, TRUE Muslims are tolerant of all societies - you obviously have a VERY narrow view of other cultures.
Why not do some reading and rise above your ignorance.

Promiscuity & binge drinking (amongst other prevalent shortcomings in the secular element of our society) are against the basic principles of most religions, yet I don't see anyone asking the same question being put to Christians (of which I am one).
Perhaps this is because the partucular activities to which you allude are not things that people choose to 'fit in' with but are a symptom of a society that has chosen to 'opt out' of it's country's religious & social heretage in favour of an 'eat, drink & be merry for tomorrow we die!' lifestyle.
If you need an example of a young man who has made a real success of reconciling his religious, family and other aspects of his life with the fact that he is British and muslim (two things that are not mutually exclusive), one need look no further than the boxing phenominon Amir Khan.
If only other British youngsters - Muslim, Christain or secular - would follow his example, we'd have less crime and more hope.

It is only a certain proportion of young people who go out binge drinking and are promiscuous, The majority of british people are pretty clean living and drink only moderately.
The only requirements to integrate are to peak the language, to be tolerant of others beliefs and ways, not to be religilously or culturally provocative and to participate in everyday life and not to want to 'kill the infidel'. It would be nice if muslims could go to pubs and order soft drinks or tea and coffee.
Not all muslims live in the dark ages and are able to integrate very well. It just needs the rest of them to catch up.

Promiscuity and binge drinking (and the chav/yob culture in general) is NOT representative of all English culture but it is very prevalent among the young.
Maybe this is why it is younger Muslims who seem to be particularly alienated from the British way of life (and are tempted by terrorism).

Hi,
Binge drinking and promiscuity are not part of English culture, what makes you think it is acceptable to perform a life like that, the government is cracking down on drink abuse as it is NOT acceptable for the vast majority of the English people to behave in this way, culture a way of life for the majority not the alcohol fulled kids.

So integrating into English "culture" requires being promiscuous and binge drinking??? That doesn't say much for the English culture, my friend.

So promiscuity and binge drinking are English cultures ?
I do know what you mean though and I think you've hit upon an issue that could have a lot to do with a lot of things.
Young Asians DO struggle between 2 cultures. Their parents, born in their country of origin simply wanted to bring that country to the UK whereas their children, born in Britain are trapped between the two.
Asian parents have let their children down in this respect.

Is everyone in the English culture a binge drinker or promiscuous? I mean if they choose to a Muslim could opt not to binge drink or be promiscuous. It's not hard if someone's faith is all there.
