Because we haven't decided a human life is worth anything yet, not really. Also a guinea pig might not know what is about to happen and certainly doesn't hurt after, as none of us do, I guess. Maybe if we start with the pig, we will get the idea that it's a good idea to find some other solutions for people also. Not bad as far as it goes, but we can't make it illegal and when we reach that point we won't have to have a law.

I don't actually know that, because in my opinion, God put everything on this Earth for a reason, and therefore He loves all things equally. Some people might say that, because of the way the world is, that the killing of animals is in the human nature, so it should be acceptable. However, I believe that animals should have equal rights to human beings as regards living and protection, especially since they can't speak up for themselves. I also believe that all creatures on this Earth should be treated equally, because they are all here for a reason.

it is not. merely because of the fact animals cantcontinual, talk human and all that different stuff does not mean they're much less substantial. i think of animals are greater substantial, human beings are egocentric, and care approximately themselves.they're residing, respiration animals. human beings and animals are mammals! they have thoughts. think of in case you have been an animal, i think of you will possibly want to be respected too. It saddens me how human beings use animals for finding out on make up and different issues, stabbing needles into their pores and skin. they might get unwell and die. whilst their completely healthful, idiots go try on them. How egocentric. perhaps a human might want to be grabbed, put in a cage and then having needles each and all the time conflict by discomfort. How might you experience. Animals are substantial. they're style, candy and loving. they're large enterprise to have around. nevertheless they're used to treatment cancer, it extremely is nonetheless merciless. docs can go locate some thing else to attempt on. do not try on harmless lives. Animals have a similar rights as human beings. So i've got self belief animals are greater substantial. Animals are a similar and have thoughts and want to be dealt with a similar. i might take a bullet for my puppy if somebody tried to shoot my puppy.

An interesting question. Maybe one reason is from religious texts. A lot of the major religions of the world place human life as superior to animal life.
But I think it boils down to whether animals should have the same rights as humans. In general I would say that animals should not be subject to wanton harm, but they don't deserve rights per se. Animals cannot contract, nor have much sense of moral responsibility. For a viable rights system to work, I'd think it best works amongst sapient beings.

I think because we're are able to do this... discuss such subject over the interenet, puts us a cut above the animal world! I'm not sure it's fair to say we're 'worth' more becasue that begs the question 'whats your measuring method?' or 'how do you judge?'
With regards to your example, I think that our laws and developments as humans make it a different matter. In the guinea pig world I don't think they have laws again killing each other...

First, I want to be certain everyone knows that Humans are members of the Animal Kingdom. Next, there is such a thing as loyalty, and it is a rare virtue. One's species, family, clan, nation, planet, solar system, galaxy or universe have priority over others, if one is sane. Putting a guinea pig ahead of a human in your example is ridiculous to the logical man, but PeTA does such neurotic stuff. Indeed, some people enjoy using other animals to spite humans. My oldest sister is such an evil person. She supports PeTA, and I am sure there are many like her in that ****** group.

Humans create value. We do this on a collective basis ( thru laws, religion and culture) and an individual basis ( arriving at a value through thought). You may choose to accept the collective - say a religious absolute value about human life or follow laws as stated within your government or you may choose to arrive at your own conclusions about what value human life has. I personally value humanity as a whole, admitting to myself that I cannot live comfortably without the existence of others. I also value human interaction over that of other species ( most of the time). I CREATE value, which is the most important thing to realize.

To be fair humans and animals should be equal, but life isn't always fair! :-)
Animals are precious and worth no less than humans. We actually depend on them to live - because they are our greatest source of food.
We have to be their voice because they don't have one, unless you can translate 'meows' 'moos' and 'woofs'.
In many respects I prefer animals to humans - because animal ambitions are to survive. They don't take things for granted, they just live. Most animals won't attack unless feeling threatened, whereas humans can attack for no apparent reason!
I love animals and would never hurt an animal and when people say that animals and humans aren't equal - I wonder what makes them so insensitive?
Thank You
& Good Night ..

Not so simple, wouldn't it be nice if all moral dilemnas were black and white?
All life is sacred. But I would save my own child before I would save a stranger. I would risk my own life to save any of our pets if I could.
Killing anything without cause is murder, it's just classified differently under human law. God may have a running tally for everything you kill for all you know.

Depends on the point of view. I'm pretty sure a dog is very dog-centric, a dung beetle is very dung beetle-centric, and I know humans are very human-centric. In a court of law judged solely by guinea pigs a human who kills a guinea pig may be strapped down and nibbled to death, whereas the same court may find the killing of a human perhaps unfortunate, but not criminal..
