How do you stop an alcoholic person from drinking the day before they go into rehab?

The answer to your question, while easy to say, is harder to do: turn your back and walk away.
Perhaps the most frequent argument the alcoholic would pose for doing this would be " I just want this last chance to enjoy myself". There is a curious truth about alcoholism and that is most alcoholics do NOT enjoy drinking it.
That person has little interest in being, and staying, sober, and BOTH parts are essential for rehab to succeed..
It sounds like the rehab is not voluntary, but forced upon this person, and even if it is voluntary, the "last chance" means it is being treated as forced, and the will to succeed is low or absent.
Hope is not enough and love is not enough, no matter how much of either that you have to give. Success comes from within the alcoholic who chooses to become AND stay sober.

No seriously, if you haven't learned by now, there is nothing you can do to keep an alcoholic from drinking short of restraints. You cannot make them do anything. The fact that they agreed to go to rehab is a great first step.
I think that if you forcably stop them from drinking then you will make them go into withdrawls before they get to rehab and it will be less likely that they will go, because the withdrawls will freak them out.
The Dr's at the rehab will be able to give them something to ease the discomfort but in the meantime I would say do not give them a drink and don't encourage it, but don't forcably try to stop them. They have made it this far....

You can't. Also, if it's not their idea to go to rehab and get help, but instead they are doing it to pacify the urgings of friends/loved ones - the treatment often does not have lasting successful results. An alcoholic MUST want to get help themselves as the only thing that will ever make them better is a change on their inside.

You can't stop someone from drinking. Unfortunately you are not accountable for this persons inability to quit drinking. There are herbs that you can get at the healthfood store to lessen the craving though. Call your local natural foods store and they can offer some suggestions.

alcoholism is an ailment, an habit and it destroys lives and relationships. loving and liking the alcoholic isn't a concern. the difficulty is his or her habit. the alcoholic has to discover the thank you to get greater powerful. we can't treatment them.

my husband is a recoveing alcoholic. and fist thing is first they need to be able to tel them selfs that they have a prob. Then if they want to to stop drinking then they will have the drive in them selfs to stop. until then all you can do is be there for them .
