I started my period a year ago and I do karate, dance, and gym class.... I sometimes find that I have a heavier flow after a workout....so when would be a good time to start using tampons for my sport activities? or how long should I wait after starting to try tampons?

Its perfectly fine to start. I actually recommend it! I'm a swimmer, and I started my period a couple of years ago right before a big swim meet, so I had to use one right away! It works and you can't even feel it. I prefer them SO MUCH MORE than a pad because when wearing a pad I'm always self concious that people will be able to tell I'm wearing one (sadly that has happened...) and with a pad you can't feel it and nobody notices it. For starting, I recommend playtex slim fit. The sports ones are also good. Just relax when putting it in-so much easier. And if your having trouble put a little vaseline on the end of the tampon. Believe me it works

You body was physically ready for tampons the minute you got your first period. You can use them as soon as you want to. I'd recommend starting with a slender model with a PLASTIC applicator.
(The risk of TSS is VERY small. Just change your tampon every 6-8 hours)

I say you should use Playtex Sport tampons if you are very active, There very comortable and stay in place. You have to change them regurally, and that is about all.

theres really no limit to how long you should wait
just try them and see how comfortable they are to you
if you can wear them with no problems then it should be fine to wear them when working out and the other activities your in

hope this helps
