A few friends of mine claim they have a hard time falling asleep without the tube on. One friend says he has to sleep with loud music on because he has night terrors if he doesn't. Can anyone explain this?

The sound they need to hear may offer comfort to the listener allowing them to sleep, some like a light on some do not, its a matter of comfort and conditioning and it could be physiological too or other problems.

I frequently go to sleep with the TV on, but I always set the sleep timer. I just always think I can stay awake to finish a show.

Leaving it on is just creating a VERY bad habit and a poor nights sleep.

If they have to hear something to sleep, they have things to play nature sounds, that I would think, would be better and more restful.

I feel this way sometimes. I have anxiety issues and sometimes laying in a quiet room and trying to fall asleep causes my mind to start wandering and becomes restless. Television is wonderful anesthesia. No, really.
