No, not right. As per the UAE Labor law it stipulates that all the expenses related to the visa processing, health card etc will not be deducted from the employee's salary. Your employer has no rights to deduct the charges from you. I wonder how strange the consulates are even practicing against the country’s law.

Visit the following link for more details, hope it will help.

I always tell this to everyone who asks me a job-related question in Dubai...

Always, always, always make sure that you get a detailed contract before you signup for the job.

Such disputes are commonplace in Dubai and without a contract, an employee is rendered helpless against the offender.

And to answer your question, then I second Zain's answer... no... companies are responsible for any such visa related charges.

Show your employer a copy of the labor law. He may already know about it but by showing the copy, you relay the message that you know about it too and you've got the law on your side. That usually deters them.

You already got your links for the labour law. To echo your answerers, the employer is fully responsible for your visa processing.

I know of several large companies who deducts these charges illegally and under a different deduction heading so the employees cannot contest these illegal charges.

you can always report this to the Ministry of Labour so they can facilitate investigation and fine the company for doing so.
