- Change the growth rates of many plants and animals, as increased frowth rate means greater profits per unit time. Increase yield by shortening growth period.

2. Nutrition
- Crops that produces crop with increased nutritional value that are beneficial to human.

3. Resistance.
Pest/Herbicide resistant plants, to increase crop yield

4/ In Environment
- Used to protect our environment. eg. bacteria can be genetically enfineered to clean up toxic waste.
- Potato as sentinel plant, withtransplanted jellyfish genes produce a fluoscent proteinwhen soil becomes too dry. A few in a field can prevent overwatering and keep fertilisers from bein washed into water supplies.

5. Medicine.
Development of 'pharm' plants and animals that make human proteins for medical use and viral proteins for use as vaccines.
