They are members of President Bush's administration. They are not doing anything on their own. Buying protection is more like it.

Buy friends? lol
That always works, everyone has a price and the US can find your price easily. I'm not against it, b/c its a smart way to balance Iran, without having to be involved in a military operation. Will it backfire? Maybe, but their way of thinking is, shoot first then ask questions, or in this situation, do what has to be done, we'll deal with the consequences later.
Not sure about the long term consequences, but I think its a good short term strategy. Iran needs to be put in place, and if their neighbors are getting weaponry from the US, they might think twice before starting a regional conflict.

Friends are the way most politics happens.

Buying friends may seem odd, but it's standard practice going back thousands of years during any political conflict. Whether it will work in the long run is debatable.

What I find most interesting is that they are trying to make friends with Saudi Arabia -- the country that was the home of most of the 9/11 hijackers, and the country that currently has the largest number of foreign insurgents in Iraq.

So, maybe that's a bad choice.....
