The Rangers were not going to be able to sign Teixeira to a new contract and they wanted to get something for him. Considering the circumstances they did about as good as they could.

They seem to be very similar to the Pittsburgh Pirates in that when a player has a decent year, they sign him to a big contract, he never has as good of a year again and then they dump him and his salary to another team for low quality prospects. I'm not saying that is what happened in the latest trade however, because I think they got the best deal they could for Teixeira. I also do not understand the reasoning behind them trading away their good players and retaining ones that aren't performing up to potential. It should be the other way around!

It always sucks when a star player is traded because the team can't afford him, but at the same time, you have to get something for him. If they wait until the end of the year and try to resign him, and he chooses to go somewhere else, you don't get anything for him, other then picks in the draft.

Disagree. They got 3 prospects for someone who wasn't going to be on their team next year. Now, he's Atlanta's problem.

Salty, what a coop! i dont know who the minor leaguers are that are coming with him, but i suspect they dont have a firstbaseman! HA!

Although good news for greg dobbs, he will be called up to be texas' DH. Finally he has some value for my fantasy team!
