Classic liberalism IS modern liberalism -- the core of the liberal philosophy is freedom, diversity, and lack of govt interference in personal activities.

Because the goals are based on diversity and freedom, the specific agenda will always vary relative to what the current thresholds and limits are. So, while the modern liberal may be advocating different things or focusing on different issues, the goals and purpose are the same.

However, what many people call modern liberalism is NOT liberalism at all. In fact, many groups that used to be liberal stopped being liberal and instead adopted a socialist agenda -- socialism and liberalism are direct opposites.
