as an Englishman who is currently in the USA on holiday i feel i must ask this
Why is it that most Americans smell of onions and make no effort to disguise it.
In England we use sprays to cover our smell, Americans obviously dont.

Yes they do, It is most distressing; Perhaps we could get the UN to do something about It ? The odour of onions represents a clear and present danger to national comfort and security of these fair Isles. Action needs to be taken immediately.
Thank-you for bringing this to our attention; I shall be requesting that the British Cabinet hold an emergency meeting to discuss this crisis.
It is quite obvious that some sort of immigration control will need to be put in place. I suggest that sniffer dogs be used at all major airports. Any american found to smell of onions should of course be repatriated.
The more long-term consequences need to be considered, in particular the effect of this onion-breath on climate change. If we receive no assurances that the excessive consumption of onions by US citizens shall be reduced, I suggest that stringent economic sanctions be introduced.

i have never noticed that americans smell of onions, even after spending a year in japan, the cleanest country. you must be in a place in which a lot of onions are eaten. their smell comes out through the pores. good luck with those oniony americans.

Because they like to eat lots of burgers with onions in them. There is no point using sprays to cover the smell if they are just going to eat another burger in 10 minutes time.

We, in the US, do more than just use sprays to 'cover' our smell. We take baths and showers and start over fresh every day - sometimes twice a day.

You might try it. Your b.o. has obviously advanced to the point that even you can smell it.

Maybe you should use that spray in your mouth. I'm real sure that your mistaking those kippers you had for breakfast for someone else's oder. I can understand how you are confused, since most Brits I've come in contact with haven't yet figured out what a toothbrush or floss is for. Please excuse me, maybe your still waiting in line for that communized medicine to fix your grill.
