I agree with WISDOM SPEAKS. Gandhiji was not at all in favor of even Congress party to continue & had told the members of then congress to dissolve this party as the aim with which this party was formed namely independence of India has been achieved. But then greedy politicians continued with this party, the burden of which we people of India are facing now.

Are you asking what Gandhiji would have done after seeing the mud slinging in the just concluded Presidential elections in India? If that is what you want to know, then let me state that it would have been one of the more unfortunate and unpleasant experiences in his life.
Gandhiji not only wanted an India free from British rule. He also wanted an independent nation with strong democratic fundamentals, where the executive would be someone who truly represented the people's choice. Unfortunately, the general opinion is that our political leaders failed us on that score. The people of India at large wanted Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam to continue for a second term which the coalition currently in power didn't want. Thus, the people's wish being neglected by the self serving politicians would have hurt Gandhiji a lot. Maybe he would have tried to prevail on our rulers to allow Dr. Kalam as President of India for a second term. Mrs. Pratibha Patil's election to the post of President of India might have given him some consolation as she happens to be the first woman President of India.
Few politicians fight elections fair and square these days. The picture is more or less the same even in the USA, which is considered the greatest democracy in the world. There too elections are fought on a no holds barred basis. Gandhiji himself was not unfamiliar to bitterly fought contests. In his life time he had seen hard fought elections within the Indian National Congress. But then his powers of persuasion had ensured that finally there was no rancour, except on a few occasions. But here was something else. Mud slinging and character assasination doesn't fit into Gandhian ideology. Today's unscrupulous politicians might have given him short shrift. All these would have left him disheartened and lamenting at the fate of his beloved country for whose independence he had struggled relentlessly during the best years of his life.
