Tilt the pad under a very bright light and if they pressed hard enough you will see what they wrote.

Try rubbing the notepad lightly with another pencil.

Take a pencil and VERY lightly scratch over it so that you don't colour in the pressure of where the words were written..
Maybe you shouldn't snoop, don't wake sleeping dogs??

if possible ,using the sheet that was under it, "color" back and forth with a pencil and it will usually reveal what you're looking for. good luck
