There is no question of good or bad, right or wrong. News channels are a business with the intentions of making profit. For this they have to sell. Obviously there are enough people interested in viewing these kind of programmes, otherwise why would the news channels produce such programmes? Advertisers must be sponsoring such programmes because obviously they are viewed by a large audience. If anyone does not like to watch such programmes, they are free to switch to some other channel. No one has put a gun to anyone's head forcing them to watch these programmes, have they?

There are way too many news channels, with way to many, talentless, reporters and anchors. To raise the TRP's and get maximum advertisement's, they have to show program's which please the majority of the viewers, who happen to be people who would care less about how government policies affect them.
In short, show the viewers a snake charmer or some person wearing a colour full night gown predicting the future or some news on Rakhi.Sawant and the TRP hits a high.
You want good news watch BBC, CNN.

Your freedom to switch off when you dont like a programme is unfettered, unless you tell us that perforce you have to watch such programmes.
