A lot of places have free brake inspection. With about 35K miles on a set of brakes, it is not a bad idea to have them inspected. There are devices installed on some cars that will notify you if the pads are worn enough to be replaced. Others have a metal piece that will start to make noise as you drive, it will be like a small squeal that comes in short blasts. It is noticeable when you are driving slow.
good luck.

If you cannot see the brake pads through the holes in the wheel cover, you will have to jack up the car and remove the wheel to have a look.
If you see 3mm or less material on your shoes, you should get them replaced asap. Leaving it to later could cause you to forget and then the squealing starts and it's too late. The damage will be done.
The shoe is usually about 10mm thick with maybe 10mm of brake material on it. you should be able to judge if there's a third of the material left or not.
You will have to have both sets changed at the same time to avoid uneven braking. Ferodo usually do sets for between £18 and £40 depending on your car make and model. You can get them from a local motor factors or local Halfords but get a mechanic to fit them if you are unsure of what to do as it's not a straightforward operation in some cases...

I in basic terms replaced the set on my Buell and the difference replaced into somewhat dramatic. I went with a series of Lyndall Gold racing pads and that they artwork far greater effective than the inventory ones did. It feels like the motorbike replaced into in basic terms raised up from the deck of the massive regardless of the indisputable fact that. it would desire to somewhat use a good cleansing.

You can hear squeeqy noise every time you hit the brake while moving, that noise comes from a metal that is in contact with the break disk or drum, it touches the disc or drum if the brake pad are already hin in size due to wear.

The sound you get when braking hard changes, and you find you don't slow up as quickly as before.
don't leave it too long or you will be paying for new discs too!
