I was vacationing in Niagara Falls 3 weeks ago. In the middle of the night I experienced abdominal pain that was the worst pain I've ever felt. I couldn't sit, stand, or lie down. We ended up going to the ER where they did blood tests and xrays. They determined that I needed a laxative. I took the laxative as directed...and though it worked like it should have, I still get little twinges of the same pain. I have a history of constipation which is why I wasn't surprised...but that laxative didn't seem to help the pain. It hasn't been so bad and intense as it was, so I haven't been back to the doctor. But I'm not sure if I should be concerned. I mean, they took xrays, so they could see what was going on. But should I see my family doctor? Could something else be wrong? Also-I was on my period that day. But this pain was NOT cramps. I just started birth control, and by the time I was at the ER I had been on my period for 22 days because I was still adjusting to the pills. Any ideas?

I know about the 9 regions of the abdomen, as well as the the 4 quadrants. I would consider this to be in the hypogastric region.

The doctor I saw was in a different country from where I live, meaning he doesn't know me or my medical history. He said before handing me the laxative, that it wasn't an excessive amount of stool present, but that nothing else seemed wrong so we would "try that."

Yes, I would recommend going back to the doctor about this issue. Because of the fact that you have been having issues with bleeding for 22 days yes, it's possible that you could have still been adjusting to being on the pill but I would recommend consulting a gynecologist to see what they say.

One possibility for causing this pain is endometriosis but the doctor will try to help you figure out if that is the case.

Doc has not considered ur condition to be a cause of concern and probably constipation is the root cause. U can get rid of it if

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

u should see and have an endoscopy done passing a tube down the mouth or a ultrasound scan.....xrays dont show much of a stomachs conditions except some...........real emergencies...
kindly see a local surgeon

u know abdomen is divided into 9 regions equal in front by 2 lines (imaginary)by us docs.and each areas pain suggests 4 or 5 conditions may exist........its called a pandoras box by docs ...so i am not guessing....
