This means billions of Rupees loss to the Indian Film Industry. Should his case be considered & allowed under the Probation of Offenders Act? The six years imprisionment is not simple but rigorous ,what it means that he has to do labour in the jail.

Rani what ever you say is right but here Sanjay Dutt is not be punished for his present conduct but his past conduct. As far reducing his punishment is concerned what the maximum even the Supreme court can do in this case is to reduce it by only one year as the section 26 (2) of the Arms Act,1959 (the year he was born) clearly provides Whoever does any act in contravention of any of the provisions of section 5,6,7 or 11 in such manner as to indicate an intention that such act may not be known to any public servant or to any person employed or working upon a railway, aircraft, vessel, vehicle or any other means of conveyance, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not less than five years but which may extend to ten years and also with fine.

Sanjay Dutt should be thankful to the TADA court for his exemption from the blast case and he has only been held guilty of possessing arms illegally and the sentence shows that still judiciary is keeping its standard of rendering justice without seeing the face. If he is released on Probation of Offenders Act,it will be a precedent for all those youngsters who are in the habit of possessing armsfor show. The sentence will open the eyes of all those who are thinking that money is above all laws. I have sympathy for Mr.Dutt but his possession of unlisenced arm was discovered at the crucial timing of Mumbai blast and he is lucky enough to get a scot free acquittal from those offences. The conviction of keeping illegal arms will not spoil his career in films and he can start afresh with full strength.I hope this conviction will open the eyes of the youngsters who are keeping and using illegal arms for minor gains.

Commit the Crime - Do the Time. Sanjay is lucky that he was only sentenced u/Arms Act and not under TADA like many other Accused in the case who appeared to have committed similar offences. Judge Kode has indulged Sanjay in the matter of post conviction bail, as also today when he permitted him privileges not accorded to the other convicts. Sanjay like others has to face the consequences of his actions. Had Sanjay been accorded any preferential treatment, it would have been a clear violation of Art.14 for the other convicts, some of whom have got unduly harsh sentences. The public feels sorry for Sanjay because of his Munnabhai persona, but the reality is that he does not deserve preferential treatment just because of this. At the end of the day, justice must be perceived to be done. Today's youngsters are a breed apart who may not be particularly inclined to learn any lessons from the outcome of this or other cases. A positive message could be sent out if those named by the Justice Srikrishna Commission in the Bombay riots cases are also prosecuted, albeit belatedly.

Whoever it is, Iaw should its own course, Beacuse so many others have been convicted in this case, Some have been given death penalty also, So if Sanjay Dutt is guilty he should be punished, Nation's interest cannot be sacrificed for some million losses for somebody. We should think about the persons who lost their lives during the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

Is it a crime, no! The Officers Oath is as follows: "I, _____ , having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." An Officer promises to support and defend the CONSTITUTION... not an individual. "Following Orders" did not serve as a defense for German or Japanese officers following World War II. IF the information on Lt Watada is correct... I think he should have been permitted to resign his commission at the end of his obligated service. BUT, as others point out: the UCMJ and Army Regulations have little appreciation for deserters, conduct unbecoming, or such. I DO think he deserves time for his offenses

If he is not punished for his offence, he will stand as role models for others. Only Sanjay Dutt is not an actor who fills the void created in Bollywood. There is no loss to Indian Film Industry if he is convicted. There are many actors and actors in the offing who replace more Sanjay dutts. Awaring 6 years imprisonment for possessing illegal Arms is justified. The award speaks increase of faith of commonman in judiciary and all are equal in the eyes of law concept

The Reasons the Judge gave him were VERY LOGICAL.

The punishment he has been given is because of WHAT HE DID IN THE PAST, and not what he's today. Because of what he did, caused loss of death, so many suffered look from their point of view.

Assuming his ESCAPE from LAW It would have given strength to the OTHER High Class people who can ESCAPE any situation on basis of MONEY POWER and FAME (Similar to BMW Car CASE, I really feel sorry for the people who suffered DEATH and HATE for the People who changed their STANCE - NDTV People took a BOLD Step & Hats OFF to them).

And also it could have led to a SENSE of PARTIALITY / DISCRIMINATION on basis of CAST, as most of the people involved were MUSLIMS. It may had given arise to an END-LESS Debate on HINDU-MUSLIM situation in india.

SUPREME Court should REJECT his appeal, as this is a CLEAR-CUT Case and it's just a waste of time.

If he's innocent what about those people who have been punished, they might also have done some good work - Look from their perspective - they were doing GOOD to help their family and serve a MOTiVE that might be true at some instance.

Everyone DOES GOOD and BAD, The punishment he got is for his PAST deeds. He's found GUILTY, He has committed CRIME, He should be punished.

law is and should be same for all just because he is a famous personality it doesn mean everything will add do his advantage... talking about the money loss just think about the 250 souls killed in the blast, what about their families..
i appreciate the honest judgement given to him - truth always triumphs though late but no one can escape the crime no matter how big or how famous one is-------- AS YOU SOW SO WILL U REAP!! its a good lesson 4 the youngsters and an warning for the wrong ones to set back and correct themselves before it is too late.

can u give me ONE sensible, logical, legal answer why his case shoule be considered. when he had purchase arms he was an adult and when he was told by some other persons that it is a crim to keep arms without license , why did he not surrender the arms to to police authorities. why did he destroy these weapons. did he consult any lawyer at that time and checked the pros and cons of his action.Apart from being in trouble himself, he also put his friends in trouble by asking them the destroy the weapons. So, why should he not be punished for violating the law of the country. I dont see any logical reason for reconsideration of his case.

Is this justice - punishing people after 20 years?

Is it not similar to the advices we hear from our elders @ home that if you do a bad deed you would be punished after death? Commit a crime now to be punished 20yrs later!! Indian Justice!! Gr8 Indian constitution!! Curropt Judicary, Curropt Law'n Order!!! Curropt Govt!!

One might say that even if 100s Culprits are spared even 1 Innocent should not be vitimised - and this would be just a crap. Since the curropt Judicary and Govt of India actually encourages Terrorism, viz.

- People caught under TADA with proofs and evidences under TADA act - Terrorist Act; are given 20years to freak'n enjoy their lives to glory.

- Innocent people are convicted immediatly with no chance given to prove their innocence due to some greedy Lady and her Family filing cases under Marital Laws with no evidences and proofs just word of mouth. Even after decades of fighting and proving their claims to be false (by then these innocents have been already punished), the ones who misused is scot free. The Judiciary and the Govt has already branded these misusers as Legal Terrorists, but encourages them to continue their terrorist activities of misusing laws.

- How much support did our Govt give to the Drs of Terrorists? Sabeel given full diplomatic support at UK, Haneef given wide media and govt support!!

Are these not encouraging Terrorism?? Or is it being Spinless and trying to secure Vote Banks??

Terrorism Is Terrorism. Punishment should be irrespective of gender, religion and caste. Let us be honest and fight to wipe out Terrorism.

God Bless Fanatic India!!
