I have the same problem actually, I use Hylexin and it really helps. It's pretty expensive but I've found a good vendor (link below)Last time I paid only $83 (plus shipping too) compared to other stores it's $95. Apparently Hylexin has been proven in studies so it's not just a random product marketed for dark circles.. I always look into these types of products before I purchase and this one is really good. Apparently what I read about the cause is that tiny capillaries can start to get clogged under the thin eye skin. Hylexin helps reverse this ad prevent future darkening... Hope this helps... also, wear sunscreen always and plenty of water!

Milo, If you are nearing or in menopause, the darkness cannnot be changed -darn it! Before that, water, sleep (the #1 solution), and diet have the largest effect. The color of the coverup may need to change as well. The skin colored cover ups work while we are the youngest. As we age, especially if you are of Mediterranean descent, the cover up may need to have a green or purple base. See some of the professional make-up specialists. They can help you determine which one you need.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

Girl, you have a lot of the same problems I did.
I bought this undereye treatment from Avon that had vitamin c in it: you can put it on under your makeup and before bedtime, smearing a small amount from the outside undereye to the bridge of your nose - it really did help.
You might find a similar treatment at a local beauty counter; look for undereye cream with vitamin c.
