Run anti virus and spyware scans to make sure there aren't any malicious programs on the computer causing issues. Another cause can be that way too many programs are loading when you start up the computer.

Go to Start then click run and type msconfig and click ok. On this window click the startup tab and the top. Anything checked will start when the computer turns on. Some of them are kind of obvious like msnmsngr is MSN Messenger and some are kind of vague. If you search for the abbreviation you can learn what program they are associated with and whether they are necessary for windows. When I checked mine the first time I found office programs were loading, all sorts of printer related programs, and cd burner stuff etc. These things aren't necessary and will load when the program is opened anyway.

Very obviously a trojan, and a few other viruses. I can't help you without being there. My advice: Save your files and important programs to disk or external hard drive, then promptly reformat it. If you have no idea what I just said, just go buy a new Mac.

If it is Windows 98 then 256 ram is good. If it is XP or Vista, you're pretty much screwed you need atleast 512 for XP and 1024 for Vista.

Click on start and then click on all programs and look for start up.
Eliminate everything that you don't use so that your computer can free up ram usuage, for example you might have download adobe reader, therefor that type of software enables an auto-matic registry that turns your 0 to an 1, oh boy thats not kool. Forces you to buy an upgrade to your memory. Sorry about that i spaced out! I need to stop smoking and giving out our information! Do-H!
Go to the start up and delete the start up programs, if you really need to use those programs you can manualey select them from your folders.

How you like them apples?

clear out all the prefetch files, and turn off all the items in startup. Then, only start the programs as you use them.
