While in San Antonio, be sure to walk along the Riverwalk (maybe take the barge ride along the river) If you like history see the missions set up by the priest to minister to the native americans. The most famous mission is the Mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo) but there are several others. There are theme parks. Six Flags Fiesta Texas (I was there yesterday) is a lot of fun, thrill rides and some very good musical shows. Sea World San Antonio is entertaining with the whale shows and also has rides. It used to be fun to visit the many Military bases as they have a lot of historic displays, but they are all closed since 9/11.
Most importantly is to get information from the COnvention and Visitors Bureau about what is available.
Just north of San Antonio is the #1 waterpark in the US called Schlitterbahn, also in that area is tubing on the Guadelupe and Comal rivers (one of the most relaxing pastimes in the area.) Also north of the city are several caverns which can be toured. In the Hill Country area which San Antonio sits on the south side of, is a very nice wine country area with several winery tasting rooms and winery tours. Additionally in that area are several quaint small towns (mostly of german immigrant origin) which have cute shops, diners, and bed and breakfasts.
Have a good time, have a margarita at La Fogata, and eat some Tex-Mex and Barbeque while you are in the area.
By the Way Pepperdine has a point, but it is mostly on top of his head. San Antonio is like any large city in the US or anywhere, There are parts of town to avoid, there are some really nice areas, and for the most part it is just an average city. However, the crime rate is actually very good for one of the 10 largest cities in the US. I would rather be walking around San Antonio than south central LA or any part of Phoenix (though Scottsdale and the other cities are nice), try a nice leisurely stroll throug the more dangerous parts of New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta or Houston. The point is San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas and the 7th largest city in the US. Ther are some bad parts but the greater part of the city is beautiful and the people are very friendly!

I would suggest the Alamo. But watch out for the Watch Cat,lol.
Then come over to the Courthouse/Post Office across the street to see the frescoes depicting the history of Texas from it's discovery in the late 1600's by French nobleman Robert La Salle,to it's present day.
Next you can visit the Scottish Rite Temple. It's a library open to the public and NO the rooftop is not the one used in the filming of"The Ghostbusters".
Come over to Hemishphere Plaza and visit the Institute of Texan Cultures. It's a museum run by the University of Texas @ San Antonio and has artifacts of all the different cultures of people who have come to live in the area we now call Texas for the last 10,000 years.
Feel like some adventure,go to the Tower of the Americas. The 72 story building is the tallest free standing tower in North America. But be careful, the elevator gets stuck, lol.
Next you can take the trolley to go to the Blue Star Art Gallery on North Alamo Street.
Have fun.

Definatley go to the Riverwalk. They offer River Cruises too that give a little information about the area. See the Alamo and Downtown area. If you want to get inexpensive gifts and great food, go to the Marketplace. There are tons of shops and La Margaritas is the best for dinner. If you're there earlier in the day go to Mi Tierras (sp?) Another great thing to do is go to the Tower of The Americas. The resteraunt is a little more expensive than usual, but the food is excellent. If you don't want to spend the money for dinner there, go to the bar and have a drink. It is a blast looking at all of San Antonio from up there. Good Luck and have a good trip!

The River Walk: After construction started in 1939, The River Walk began its life as a major tourist attraction in 1941. If you have not been to the River Walk before or have not been in a long time, no trip to San Antonio is complete without a trip to the River Walk.
The Tower of Americas: Soaring 750 feet into the air, the Tower of the Americas was completed in 1968 as the theme structure of the 1968 World’s Fair, HemisFair ‘68. Soaring above HemisFair Park, the Tower of the Americas has a 360-degree observation deck. There’s a fine-dining restaurant and lounge run by Landry’s, Eyes Over Texas. There is even a 4-D ride called “Skies Over Texas”. Conference will keep those in attendance and working the event very busy, but consider a late-night trip to the Tower of Americas. On Friday and Saturday, it is open until 11. You have not really experienced San Antonio until you have visited the Tower of Americas on a cool, clear evening where you can see forever.
The Alamo: The Alamo is a symbol of San Antonio. Construction started on the Alamo site in 1724. The Alamo was made famous during the Texas Revolution, the fight for Texas independence from Mexico. During February 23rd to March 6th, 1836, a fierce battle between Mexico, lead by General Santa Anna, and the Texians and the Tejanos, lead by William B. Travis, took place at the Alamo. The Texians and Tejanos lost the battle, but the Alamo was the turning point in the war. The Alamo continues to represent “heroic struggle against impossible odds”. The exterior is always accessible. If you have never been before or haven’t been in a long time, take the time to visit. Like the River Walk and the Tower of the Americas, you haven’t been to San Antonio until you have remembered the Alamo.
Dining: Like Dallas is famous for steakhouses, San Antonio is famous for Tex-Mex. Some of the best Tex-Mex restaurants in the world can be found here. My two personal favorites are Rosario’s Mexican Café and El Jarro De Arturo.
Neighborhoods: After the River Walk, my favorite area in San Antonio is the King William district. This neighborhood is full of stately historic mansions, shady trees, and charming homes. Rosario’s Mexican Café and the Guenther House are located in the King William area. I recommend that everyone have breakfast at the Guenther House at least once in their lifetime. Leave your diet at the door. Also located in the King William area is the Blue Star Arts Complex. The Blue Star Arts Complex used to be an old warehouse that has been converted to shops, galleries, a microbrewery, and artist studios. Another unforgettable area is La Villita. This was the first neighborhood in San Antonio. La Villita is now an artist community filled with many mesmerizing shops and studios. La Villita is located on the San Antonio River Walk and is in walking distance from our host hotel and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Another worthwhile location to visit is El Mercado. El Mercado is the largest Mexican marketplace outside of Mexico. In addition to its huge marketplace, El Mercado also has the Alameda Theater, restaurants, and the Museo Alameda, the largest Latino Museum in the nation and part of the Smithsonian Institute. Finally, have lunch and a stroll in Alamo Heights if you have some time before you leave San Antonio.

yea i think you should if you have never been before, it's nice to see different cities in our country. once you leave, you'll realize how ghetto it is there, and how many drunks walk around at night. you'll come to appreciate your city better. san antonio is a nice city, but the people there aren't so nice, and you could give me a thumbs down if you want (although you did ask for my opinion, so why ask if you only want people to conform and say "yes!", what's the point?), but know that i'm not being bias or rude, just real, i've been there plenty of times. the river walk is nice, and the alamo is 2 minutes walk away, they're are always people looking to fight at night if you are around the wrong scene, believe me. the only time i go to san antonio is to visit friends from highschool that go to UTSA (university of texas- san antonio) the college scene is cool and the students are nice though, it's just the older people that aren't in school that are mean and rude. Though i do suggest going to La Cantera, a recently built mall.

There's the Alamo, Schlitterbahn (best waterpark in the country), 6 flags fiesta, Texas, the Riverwalk, all of downtown, lots of shopping and restaurants, Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Park. (They have a drive-thru Safari) and on and on and on.

In the mood for a new hot meal? Make a huge pot of veggie bean soup, divide into two-cup containers, and store in the freezer. Before bed, place a container from the fridge, then grab it before heading out the door each morning.
