I just read on the news that there's been a gene discovered that causes left-handedness and is also linked to 'mental disorders'.....
Left- handed people live (on average) nine years less than right-handed people.

It wasn't Yahoo news, it was BBC news UK, sorry!
Also it's the LRRTM1 gene and it raises the risks of having schizophrenia.
BUT...being left-handed is an advantage in hand to hand combat!!!!!

Left handed.
The reason for the mental disorders is psychological stress from being made to conform to something we're not. They still make left handed children try to change to right handed sometimes. And the reason for living on average nine years less is that being in a world that is for us set up backward can be downright dangerous.

I am right handed.My son is left handed and has done exceptional well in the field that he is working in .I have heard before that left handed people are intelligent.Saying that my daughter is right handed and has a very high i q. So where do you go from there.

I've heard the "mental disorders" etc., but never the gene. Where did you read it?
In any case, I "WAS" lefthanded, but made to switch to RH for eating and handwriting. (this was back in the early '50's). So for small motor and taught skills, I tend to use my right hand, everything else is left. I think that probably doubles me for the "mental disorders" lol.
But when I draw, I sketch left and embellish right.
ADDED: By the way, lefthandedness is also linked to certain types of genius :-)

I am right-handed, but increasingly try to improve the dexterity of my left hand. I intend to become ambidextrous at some point.

i'm right handed.
although i was taught in my boarding high school to use my left hand often just in case like u broke ur right hand or something. we thought it was pretty dumb.
funny thing was that a couple weeks later one of my friend broke his left hand and thank god he was right handed

i'm ambi too...i can do bugger-all with both hands!! on a serious note tho, i am left handed for playing pool and writing, but right hnded for everything else (bowling, cricket, tennis, eating etc.)
