80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Life does not have a meaning, it has a nature.

Life collects energy, reproduces, and trys to avoid being eaten. So get a job, find a mate, and protect yourself.

As per religious teachings, Heaven/Hell are the reward/punishment for having a good/bad life. So whats a good life? Getting a job, finding a mate, and protecting yourself.

Where is Heaven/Hell?
Please, who thinks the afterlife requires a GPS?

The only star in the universe that matters to us is the Sun. Unless you have a starship, the rest is just scenery.

It is much easier to know the meaning of your life if you will not ask anyone "What is the meaning of life". Because most probably they'll feed you with ideas they got in searching for the meaning of their own lives, ideas that were passed on to them by others, who learned their ideas from anothers...etc...and before you know it, you'll be walking on your days like a robot with all this rule and that rule to follow. You don't want this to happen, I'm sure. So try to figure out your life on your own, assessing what is important to you and what is not.

Take note of the irony too that when people are comfortable in their lives, they don't know what it is for. But when someone is already pointing a gun on their heads threatening to kill them, suddenly they have all their reasons to live and love. Some even finally have a God that they are calling on to.

Your question presupposes a Creator. The universe cannot have a purpose if there is no Creator/God.

If God exists, then he put this great need for meaning into our human nature to point us to seek Him. So, seek God.

Heaven is just a place where those who choose to seek God will be united with Him in a supernatural fellowship. Hell is just a place for those who choose to reject God.

God created the universe for His pleasure. That is all we can know, I think.

Growth.

The universe is a relfection of the self. If we project negativity, we have Hell. If we project positivity, we have Heaven. Hence, Heaven is a state of mind, as is Hell.
