You talk to people of European ancestry and they, for the most part, think their people have it harder. If you live and work in a country you are a member of that country. That is what is wrong with the American culture.

Because the UK has a welfare and NHS system, many in the US are under the misapprehension that it's a cushy existence here. Sure, there are anomalies, like someone with a brood of dozen off-springs will not need to work by claiming state support. In the US, they have to pay for their tertiary education, but now in the UK, it's the same. There are many myths about the how the US became rich, and it is often claimed that it's because they are working much harder than the rest of humanity. Hardly. As many economists have shown, the real reasons are more complex, but one important one is that they had abundant resources - both natural and human, many of the latter in the form of skilled immigrants during the last century. So, in many ways, they have had it easy. The British spirit is forged in the crucible of a Europe torn by wars, poverty, political turmoil and threats. We are therefore a hardy lot. Don't be fooled by Hollywood's portrayal of the 'tough' yankee - unless, of course, they were the early settlers many of whom emigrated from England in the first place and opened the country up. They don't call us bulldogs for nothing!

life is not harder - it is better with more freedom. The people, however, are harder and grittier. Tha Americans are nothing without having guns to hide behind whereas the Brits will resort to using physical blows if need be. One point where the Brits do excell is in their use of intelligence. At least they are not forced to believe all the crap they hear on the telly.

Depend on who you ar tlking about really.
My cousin went to live n America and as a working white had a much better standard of living than he could ever have hoped for in Britain. He came back eventually only because hi wife missed her family so much.
For the unemployed and low paid Britain is a better place to live in as we have a much better welfare system and our poor have more dignity.

Life in america is harder than the uk. You have to work hard for everything, no welfare state. Wages start about $3 per hour, that is £1.50 . Generally work six day weeks and two weeks holiday a year. You can do well but you have to get off your backside and work unlike here where we expect the state to help prop us up. Low prices only reflect the low wages.

Depends on background, I imagine both america and english lives can be difficult, depending where you live and how you live. To ask a qeustion liek that, you must know that much of america is poor, like new orleans, its such a wide space of land and not enough people.

Yes. Life is harder in the UK.
It is more expensive in the UK and we are taxed more. We don't get tornadoes, admittedly, but we do get floods now, it would seem.
We won't mention the politics (!) but life is more crowded and more expensive and more stressful in Britain.
