What causes the character defect of bossiness? How can it be completely eliminated from society?

I am not talking about eliminating authority. It is possible to be in charge without acting bossy. Most bossiness is done in situations where it is not required, such as in the context of peer pressure or among friends. If everyone was passive *AND* followed the rules, it would be a much better place.

Why would you want to do this?

I agree that bossiness isn't always pleasant and probably should be curtailed by better training, but there are times when it's needed.

In peace time, it's perfectly OK to run the country with a committee, but in times of absolute crisis the only way to get out of a bad situation is to install a bossy dictator - the committee just can't respond in the right manner.

Even bossiness has its place in the order of things, it just gets misused most of the time, that's all

Just harass bossy people in a condescending manner until...oops, the disease is not the cure.

I guess I don't really know. Probably just as well. If no one were willing to take charge, we'd never get anything done.

I suppose we'll just all have to get better at deflating the egos of those who don't have the actual authority or qualifications to lead.

"when meek inherit the earth",there shall be no bossiness. If you can't wait for that, this trait shall continue as long as the human race exists because a category of people shall always need it for their own psychological reasons.Complete elimination of bossiness would mean that every body is his own boss and such a society leads to disintegration, lawlessness and much more. However,at individual level one can learn to deal with it more meaningfully and effectively.

Its a system requirement emanating from the system hierarchy and not as a character trait, hence its not a defect in character as presumed by you.
